From the morning of November 9, 2016, Democrats have been chomping at the bit to impeach Donald Trump and remove him from office. Over two months before Trump was sworn into office, Democrats were already planning on impeaching him and removing him from office.
What does impeach entail?
Article 1, Section 2 of the US Constitution states:
“The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.”
Article I, Section 3 of the US Constitution states:
“The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.”
“Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.”
Article II, Section 4 of the US Constitution states:
“The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
That means that articles of impeachment must originate in the House. It only takes a majority of votes to approve each article of impeachment. Once approved by the House, the articles of impeachment are passed on to the Senate who handles them like a regular trial with each side calling witness and presenting evidence. At the conclusion of the Senate trial, senators vote on each article of impeachment. It takes a two-thirds super majority vote to pass each article of impeachment. If any of the articles of impeachment are confirmed with a two-thirds vote, the person being impeached is immediately removed from office and barred from holding public office anytime in the future.
Additionally, anyone who has been legally impeached by the House and Senate may not be pardoned by the president.
Two years into Trump’s first term in office, some Democrats are still talking about impeachment, even though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently said that she no longer believes impeachment is an option and that he is not worth the effort.
But, what if somehow Robert Mueller finds something that Democrats can use to bring articles of impeachment against Trump? Will Democrats be satisfied if they remove Trump from office?
NO! NO! NO! They will NOT be satisfied for one reason.
Removing Trump would automatically make Vice President Mike Pence the next president and that, to many Democrats could be worse than Trump.
Simply stated, Pence is a strong evangelical Christian. He has already been criticized for his strong Christian faith. He doesn’t allow himself to be alone with another woman. He insists that someone else, including his wife Karen, to be present, just to avoid any signs of impropriety.
Karen Pence has been recently criticized because she is an art teacher at a Christian school that adheres to strict biblical principles.
A man who attends the same church I do, told me that his family and grew with the Pence family and that he knows Mike Pence very well. He told me that Pence’s faith is strong and he is committed to his Christian faith.
This is something that some Democrats complained about when Pence was governor of Indiana.
Even though the constitution states that there shall be no religious test for anyone seeking public office, some Democrats in the Senate are currently using a reverse religious test in the confirmation process of some of the Trump’s nominees for judgeships and other positions. Some of the Democratic Senators have stated that certain nominees are not qualified for the position they were nominated for because of their Christian faith.
Certainly, if Democrats refuse to confirm anyone because of their Christian faith that they definitely will NOT be happy if Pence becomes president. They will certainly go after Pence with the same viciousness as they have been going after Trump.
