As hard as liberals, socialists, atheists, secularists and Muslims have tried to erase and re-write American history, our nation was established as a Christian nation. Many of the early colonists came to the American colonies and wilderness to escape harsh religious persecution. A number of European countries at the time had state established churches and controlled worship in every aspect and anyone who didn’t agree or worship as the state dictated was severely persecuted. Some were imprisoned, beaten and even executed, all in the name of state run religion.
To escape these harsh conditions, they fled to the unknown wilderness of colonial America. They braved the dangerous and long ocean voyage and then they faced the harsh conditions in the colonies. More than one settlement and hundreds of colonists not only perished on the journey here, but they perished during the first few winters as they were not fully prepared to survive. Others faced the savage attacks of American Indians.
When it came for the colonists to rebel against the cruel tyranny of British rule, the odds were against the colonial troops, led by a man who actually had a record of losing more battles than winning – George Washington.
However, many, including Washington, believe that the only reason the American colonists prevailed over the superior British troops was directly due to intervention of God on behalf of the fledging Christian nation. In Washington’s First Inaugural Address, he stated:
“Such being the impressions under which I have, in obedience to the public summons, repaired to the present station; it would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official Act, my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the Universe, who presides in the Councils of Nations, and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that his benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the People of the United States, a Government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes: and may enable every instrument employed in its administration to execute with success, the functions allotted to his charge. In tendering this homage to the Great Author of every public and private good I assure myself that it expresses your sentiments not less than my own; nor those of my fellow-citizens at large, less than either. No People can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand, which conducts the Affairs of men more than the People of the United States. Every step, by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation, seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.” (Definitely NOT the words of deist as many claim)
Over the past several decades, that Christian foundation and history has been the target of those who desire to destroy our nation. They intend to divert the United States from it’s foundation and belief in the God of the Bible and our Savior Jesus Christ.
They have been systematically trying to erase Christianity from school history books and from government buildings.
What happens when a society turns away from God? It embraces evil and idolatry and causes God to withdraw His blessing from the nation.
This past week, thanks to some of the members of Congress, our government hailed the most evil of idols recorded in the Bible – Baal, as reported:
“The Arch of Baal – also known as the Arch of Palmyra – was reconstructed at the Capitol Mall in Washington, DC, on Thursday and displayed through Sunday, allowing spectators to marvel in the pagan false god of power, fertility and child sacrifice worshiped by the apostate Queen Jezebel of the Bible and ancient Phoenicians and Canaanites…”
“However, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.), along with ranking member Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.), promoted the exhibition of the reconstructed monument as the protection of ‘global cultural heritage,’ and they jointly unveiled it as the reconstruction of ‘Palmyra – Syria’s iconic Triumphal Arch on the National Mall’.”
Men who run our country claim to be wise, but they only prove their ignorance and they rush to repeat history, especially that recorded in Judges: 2:11-15 which reads:
“Then the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals, and they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked the Lord to anger. So they forsook the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtaroth. The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of plunderers who plundered them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. Wherever they went, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had spoken and as the Lord had sworn to them, so that they were severely distressed.”
If you take a good look at America today, you will see that we are on the verge of experiencing the same fate as the Israelites. I’m not afraid of many things, but I am terrified of God’s wrath brought down on our nation for turning away from Him and embracing the evil we are now honoring. Scripture is clear that when God brings down his wrath on a nation, that even the righteous and faithful suffer. Take a look at what happened to Daniel and his friends when God judged Israel then. They lost everything and were taken into captivity, made to be slaves and even tortured by their captors.
There is hope for America and it is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14:
“…if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
