Virginia Scandals Could Result with Republican as Governor

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is in the midst of a political firestorm over a yearbook photo of him wearing blackface makeup.

Northam has tried to deny and then justify the photo saying it was done as part of a Michael Jackson costume for a party.

Many, including Democrats, have been calling for Northam to resign from office.

Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax, also a Democrat, is also facing sexual assault allegations, that could force him out of office.

Now, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, also a Democrat and next in line for governor if Northam and Fairfax are forced out of office, has also admitted to wearing blackface and could be under the same pressure to resign as Northam.

Breitbart – Virginia AG Mark Herring Admits Wearing Blackface in College – Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring (D) revealed to black lawmakers in an emergency meeting Wednesday morning that he wore blackface at a college party in 1980.

Herring issued a statement saying he wore brown makeup and a wig in 1980 to look like a black rapper during a party as a 19 -year-old undergraduate at the University of Virginia.

The revelation further roils the top levels of Virginia government. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) and Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) are already facing controversies, and Herring would be next in line to be governor after those two men.

Herring said he and two friends dressed up to look like rappers they listened to, including Kurtis Blow.

“It sounds ridiculous even now writing it. But because of our ignorance and glib attitudes – and because we did not have an appreciation for the experiences and perspectives of others – we dressed up and put on wigs and brown makeup,” he said…

So, what happens if Northam, Fairfax and Herring are all forced out of office?

Who is next in line to take over as governor of historic Virginia?

That would be Virginia Speaker of the House Kirk Cox, who just happens to be a Republican.
