Venezuela’s Socialist Failure Should Teach Valuable Lesson to America

A couple of decades ago, homosexuals came out of the closet to declare their perversion publicly. At first, they were ridiculed and shunned, but with the help of Democrats who abandoned the morals that America was founded upon, homosexuals not only were socially accepted, but they won rights over those of normal citizens.

For many decades, socialists, like homosexuals, remained in the closet, not willing to publicly declare their anti-American political ideology. When I was in school, there was a legal effort to seek and jail socialists and communists.

Thanks to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), it’s now socially acceptable for socialists to come out of the closet and reveal who they really are, and like homosexuals, there seems to be more of them than we want.

Most Democrats are socialists by their political agendas, but few have been willing to admit it until now. This year’s midterm election season featured more Democrats admitting their socialism than ever before. Fortunately, most of them lost in the primaries, but at least one continues to make headlines as she struts about and pushes her socialist agenda without any consideration of what those policies will do to America.

One of the socialist policies being pushed by Sanders and his socialist proteges is Medicare or Medicaid for all. They often refer to as free Medicare or Medicaid for all. What Sanders and others fail to tell anyone is that their free Medicare or Medicaid for all is anything but free as reported by Fox News:

“The ‘Medicare for All’ plan pushed by Sen. Bernie Sanders and endorsed by a host of Democratic congressional and presidential hopefuls would increase government health care spending by $32.6 trillion over 10 years, according to a new study.”

“The Vermont senator has avoided conducting his own cost analysis, and those supporting the plan have at times struggled to explain how they could pay for it.”

Venezuela has universal healthcare for all, but like many other nations, their system is failing. The healthcare in Venezuela is so bad that a number of pregnant women in Venezuela have been fleeing to neighboring Colombia to have their babies.

I have friends in Canada and Great Britain, countries that also have universal healthcare. They tell me that in both countries, their covered healthcare has been steadily decreasing as the countries cannot continue to afford to provide the universal healthcare for all. Their coverage has steadily decreased while their taxes have steadily increased and the quality of healthcare has also decreased. One friend in the United Kingdom had to wait 7 months to have her gall bladder removed. If any of you have had gall bladder problems, you know how painful it can be, so realize that she agonized for 7 months, waiting for her surgery.

Sanders and his socialist minions are also pushing for a federal minimum wage of $15/hour. They believe that will help eliminate much of the poverty in America. They win over the support of tens of thousands of workers who make the current minimum wage with the promise of doubling their pay.

Seattle was the first major city to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour. The move was supposed to help lower income workers. However, it was reported that the higher minimum wage resulted in a 9% reduction in worker hours and an average decrease of $125 per paycheck. The move also cost the city 5,000 jobs.

Once again, let’s take a look at socialist Venezuela to see what raising the minimum wage has done, including the latest increase of 3,000%, as reported:

“Venezuelan workers who earned a pittance are now earning a slightly larger pittance, thanks to a big increase in the minimum wage. What they may not have are jobs.”

“Starting this week, 7 million employees are guaranteed 1,800 bolivars a month — worth about $20 at the black-market rate. President Nicolas Maduro intended the mandate as political boost, but it’s having the opposite effect as companies, already hit by Venezuela’s epic economic contraction, tell workers they can’t afford to keep them.”

“While there have been many similar moves in the past, never has one been so disruptive, arriving amid hyperinflation, depression and devaluation. Some employers are restructuring costs, rejiggering pay scales and negotiating settlements with workers. Others are simply dismissing people.”

Socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried, and yet, a growing number of Democrats fail to learn those valuable lessons and are determined to make America a socialist nation. If that happens, you can be assured that it will ruin our nation also.

Venezuela is collapsing due to socialism and America needs to learn from that.
