A month ago, President Donald Trump shocked the world and many here in the United States, including members of his administration, when he announced that he planned to withdraw most of the US troops stationed in Syria.
The surprise announcement led to the sudden resignation of Defense Secretary Gen. James Mattis.,
In what may have been an effort to quell some of the upset over the announcement, National Security Adviser John Bolton announced that the troop withdrawal from Syria was contingent on certain criteria.
Evidently, that criteria have been met as Defense Department officials announced that they have begun withdrawing US troops and equipment from the war-torn nation.
The Washington Post – U.S. military announces start of Syria withdrawal – The U.S. military said Friday that it has begun withdrawing troops from Syria, initiating a drawdown that has blindsided allies and sparked a scramble for control of the areas that American troops will leave.
U.S. forces have “begun the process of our deliberate withdrawal from Syria,” read a statement from the U.S.-led coalition. “Out of concern for operational security, we will not discuss specific timelines, locations or troop movements.” Defense Department officials said that initial withdrawals would be limited to equipment, and that no troops had yet departed.
President Trump’s Dec. 19 announcement that he was moving to disentangle some 2,000 U.S. troops from Syria’s complex battlefield sparked fears that the move might undo efforts to defeat the Islamic State’s final remnants in Syria.
It also marked the culmination of years of criticism from Trump over Washington’s role in foreign wars. In public statements, he had repeatedly suggested that he wanted to bring American troops home…
Just like in everything Trump does, he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t do virtually anything.
He has come to realize that he can’t please everyone and that doing what is best for America and the American people come first and foremost.
This is why Democrats and their media propaganda machines, hate Trump so much.
They don’t want what is best for America or the American people.
