There are protest marches against police taking place all over the country. Traveling the U.S. I have had a lot of time this month to listen to the news while driving. The past few days I have heard more than a few on the left say, “The Dallas police killer does not represent Black Lives Matters or the peaceful protesters.” Ok, I agree. Most protesters, even the ones calling for violence against the police, are not actually going to hurt police.
Yet, the left and BLM act as if racism is systemic in Police Departments across the USA—to the point that officers actively seek to kill black people. When a mentally deranged madman kills 5 police officers, it is the needle in the haystack. When police kill a black man, it is institutionalized racism.
And as peaceful as BLM claims to be, Twitter is full of praise for the Dallas shooter, “Shout out to them Dallas shooters. Rapping pigs in a blanket” or see below:
Evidence should speak, not Emotions
And in most cases, not all, lady justice, after reviewing all the evidence, has vindicated the police officers. Even the Eric Holder justice department, who was overtly hostile against police forces around the country, could not find enough reasonable cause to charge the police officer in the Michael Brown case.
All the evidence pointed to the fact that officer Darren Wilson acted in self-defense. But that didn’t stop Black Lives Matter from being created from that false narrative. Everyone has forgotten that Brown’s friend Dorian Johnson lied to police and the world when he claimed that Brown said, “Don’t shoot,” with his hands up. That lie didn’t stop the mantra, “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot”—from spreading the falsehood that police shoot unarmed suspects, even as they surrender.
It doesn’t matter that in all of the shootings, cops are convicted in the press, before the investigation even begins and long before an actual trial. So far, there have been no convictions in the Freddie Gray case, yet the mayor of Baltimore allowed her city to riot with impunity as a form of protest (yes, she really did say, “We also gave those who wish to destroy space to do that as well”—and the District’s Attorney was openly hostile towards the police she charged them. President Obama said, long before there was a trial that Trayvon Martin would look like his son if he had one. And of course, he connected the Cambridge police, who were proved to be in the right, to past racism.
“I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that.”
He should have stopped there.
“But I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home, and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there’s a long history in this country of African Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.”
False Narratives have real Results—death
Obama and Eric Holder have stoked the fires of reverse racism for nearly eight years. And now, someone snapped and five cops are dead. Without a doubt, in both cases this week, the one in Minnesota and the one in Louisiana, after the emotions subside, the facts will come out. If it is like the past, we will see a different story. But if not—if the shootings are proved to be illegal and unjustified—then the officer(s) should be charged. If we had waited for all the evidence to come in before reacting emotionally, five men would be going home to their families tonight.
Amazingly Rush Limbaugh revealed this week in his interview with Heather MacDonald that there is no proof of white against black systemic violence from the police.
The Justice Department under Obama came out with a report in March of 2015, a little over a year ago, that found that black and Hispanic officers were actually far more likely to shoot unarmed black suspects under what’s known as threat misperception.
The Truth Remains
Nevertheless, the fact remains that many, if not most, African Americans do believe that cops are out to get them. And many young whites believe the same—that cops are targeting blacks. It is not dissimilar to those Muslims overseas who believe America is out to destroy Islam. They don’t know any Americans—just what they are told in their mosques. In the U.S., all one needs to do is go to Facebook, watch certain media or listen to Al Sharpton, to be convinced that the police are racist.
And now, many police feel unsupported by the public. They’re scared. After Dallas, they will be even more concerned. Since BLM began to protest, crime is up in the nation’s cities by 17%. If cops feel their lives are at risk or that doing their job could turn them into a nationwide pariah, it will have an effect.
If we want to heal this wound, we need communication. Police stations throughout the nation need to go on an outreach offensive. Leaders in the black community, specifically clergy, need to bring the police and young urban blacks together. Yes, selfies can save. We must bring the police and young urban African Americans together to meet each other face to face. To have fun, eat a hotdog and converse. Unless these people meet police and build trust and relationships, they will believe lies regarding police.
Time for Healing
I just heard a black news anchor, Arthel Neville interview Judge Alex. He was sharp. He made good points in defense of police. She became emotional and challenged him, “When will the healing began?” She was near tears as she seemed to say, “Enough of the finger pointing, we need healing.”
I agree with her to a point. I don’t think that the President should be given a pass when he has incited much of this violence by jumping to conclusionsalways against the police. But we need healing and that is only going to come when people who feel victimized by police began to actually get to know the police officers.
Ironically, the silver lining of this horrible tragedy is that the police put their lives on the line in order to protect those who were protesting them. When the shooting started, not one said, “I am not going to risk my life for those who hate me.” Instead they ran to the shooting. That act alone should shut done these absurd protests…but it hasn’t.
