❖ William Ogborn
How is the US to react to some of the Brexit fluctuations in England or more importantly, the withdrawal of US troops from Syria? William Ogborn is a foreign affairs expert. He is a former US Department of State’s Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy Official. He was a former aide and foreign advisor to several presidential and congressional campaigns, including Dr. Ben Carson and Gov. Scott Walker’s campaigns. Ogborn notes, “Our ability to strike back at ISIS is not dependent on troops being based in Syria.” William Ogborn joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss some of these issues.
❖ Tim Winter
Television continues to have a huge impact on our children and youth—mostly in a negative way. The Parents Television Council works hard for positive change in the media. Their president is Tim Winter. He wrote a wish list for the new year in terms of changes from Hollywood and the media. For example, he wrote, “We believe there is an urgent need for Hollywood to recognize #OurKidsToo – where parents don’t have to worry whether or not a TV program is rated accurately; where children will not be targeted by Hollywood execs eager to introduce them to age-inappropriate content and issues; or where families will not be forced to pay for sexually-explicit or graphically violent content on certain networks in order to access networks that provide kid-friendly and family-friendly programming.” Tim Winter joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss what kinds of changes in the media the PTC would like to see. www.parentstv.org
❖ Jon Speed
Recently, the state of New York passed one of the most liberal abortion laws in the country. Lifenew.com writes, “The law appears to restrict late-term abortions, but it adds a broad ‘health’ exception for abortions after 24 weeks. The exception would allow women to abort unborn babies up to nine months of pregnancy for basically any reason, including ‘age, economic, social and emotional factors,’ according to New York Right to Life.” So, in effect, the law leads to abortion on demand until the moment of birth. To do his own part to protest against this unjust law, Jon Speed a Christian owner of a bookstore in Syracuse, New York, decided to close down his shop one day just to prevent having to pay for taxes that day. Going forward, all taxes to New York from his shop will be “sales taxes collected under duress.” Jon Speed joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the new law and his protesting act.
❖ Dan Gainor
We have all heard about the incident involving some young high schoolers from a Catholic school in Covington, Kentucky, who were at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D. C. recently. I even wrote about it here The Wall Street Journal noted: “Of the most culturally deplorable boxes one can check in progressive America in 2019, the boys of Covington Catholic High School have most of them: white, male, Christian, attendees at the annual March for Life in Washington, and wearers of MAGA hats. What’s not to dislike?” The media initially reported the story in a way in which the Covington boys were disruptive and rude. But when the fuller, wider context was scene, it became clear that they were remarkably well-behaved, and they were lied about. The Media Research Center (MRC) of Reston, Virginia is the organization that tracks the incredible left-wing bias in the media. MRC Vice President Dan Gainor is the head of the MRC’s Culture and Media Institute. Dan Gainor joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the misinformation and mischaracterization of the incident involving the Covington kids. www.mrc.org
