This week on Vocal Point with Jerry Newcombe, (April 1 – April 7). The topics include: Voting; the fight over border security; American liberty; America’s Christian heritage. Listen to VOCAL POINT Daily at MIDNIGHT, 6AM, NOON, 6PM, (Eastern Time) on

Adam Brandon – Topic: Voting-related Legislation in Congress—HR 1

Recently, the House of Representatives passed “HR 1” related to voting. They euphemistically called it the “For the People Act.” Adam Brandon, the president and CEO of FreedomWorks in D.C. says it should be called the “Incumbent Protection Act.” Brandon wrote an article for the Washington Examiner, stating, “H.R. 1 is not for the people…they only want free and fair elections so long as they get to decide what ‘free and fair’ really means. Under the guise of a more open electoral process, H.R. 1 rigs the game in favor of elected officials already in office and strives to censor the political speech of individuals and associations. Those who cherish the First Amendment should oppose this bill at every turn.” Adam Brandon joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss H.R. 1  @adam_brandon

Dr. Paul Rahe – Topic: Border security; the ongoing border wall dispute

There is an ongoing dispute between President Trump and his detractors in terms of “building the wall.” Was he within constitutional bounds in declaring a national emergency to secure funding for the wall, since Congress refused to go along? Some states, such as Michigan, have opposed his calling for an emergency and have even sued the administration over this. Dr. Paul Rahe (pronounced Ray) is a history professor at Hillsdale College. Among other publications, Rahe has written a 3 volume series on the history of republics in ancient times and modern. Dr. Paul Rahe joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to offer expert analysis on this ongoing conflict over border security.

Dr. Os Guinness – Topic: American Liberty

The great 19th century Russian novelist Dostoyevsky once said, “Starting with unlimited freedom, I arrive at unlimited despotism.” Dr. Os Guinness (who earned his doctorate at Oxford) is one of the most thoughtful Christian spokespersons in modern evangelicalism. He is the author of about 30 books, including the IVP book, Last Call for Liberty: How America’s Genius for Freedom Has Become Its Greatest Threat. In the book, Guinness notes that the greatest enemy of freedom is freedom—meaning freedom misused. He says in the book that America’s choices at this point are: covenant, chaos, or control. Dr. Os Guinness joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the precariousness of American liberty in our time.

Dr. Peter Lillback – Founding fathers-Deists? Men of the Enlightenment? Christians?

The founding fathers of America have sometimes been lumped into the category of Deists and as Men of the Enlightenment. But it should be noted that there are some prominent Christian thinkers who are categorized as “Men of the Enlightenment,” including Montesquieu, John Locke, and Sir William Blackstone. Those “Enlightenment thinkers” were of great importance to the founding fathers (than the skeptical types, such as Hume, Voltaire or Rousseau). Dr. Peter Lillback, founder and president of Providence Forum, co-wrote a book with Jerry Newcombe on the faith of George Washington, George Washington’s Sacred Fire. Together, Dr. Lillback and Dr. Newcombe have a series of conversations on George Washington and on the role of faith in the founding of America. In this episode, Dr. Peter Lillback joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the founding fathers and Deism and the Enlightenment.
