The Sexual Revolution: A Readers’ Guide

I just penned a piece on the tumultuous counterculture, 50 years on. I mentioned that a major part of this social upheaval was the sexual revolution. What promised to bring liberation and happiness to many has instead brought slavery and grief to millions. It has caused untold damage, and we are still reeling from its deleterious effects today.

As with any topic of such vast social, moral and cultural impact, there is a large library of books on this. Plenty of them of course are written in defence of the revolution. The volumes here are rightly concerned about it and critical of it. They highlight the dangers and downsides of this 50-year social and sexual experiment.

These volumes – which also go back to a half century ago, and extend right up to today – deal with a wide range of issues concerning the sexual revolution. Thus there are books on pornography, feminism, sex education, the counter culture, marriage and family, and so on.

Many more volumes could have been added here. But these are some of the better books available on these issues. While not all volumes are penned by Christians, probably a majority of these books are. They mostly all come from a conservative perspective, warning about the destruction, dangers and downside of the sexual revolution.

Some topics that arise here require separate bibliographies. So for those interested in learning more about the many volumes on the pornography plague.

And of course homosexuality requires its own biblio as well.

Obviously the abortion holocaust is also a direct outcome of the sexual revolution, so see this bibliography.

Those three bibliographies are all a bit dated now, so new updated versions will hopefully soon be forthcoming, just as this is an updated version of a 2012 bibliography. The 75 books featured here are invaluable if we want to understand and respond to the sexual revolution and its massive impact.

It has caused so much damage that a fightback is in order. And be forewarned: to take this on – in any of its forms – will not be taken lightly by the sexual liberationists. They do not like it when we critique their radical revolution. As David French rightly said a few years ago,

“It took me a long time to realize the following truth: No matter how compassionate, charitable, winsome, and kind you are, if you oppose the sexual revolution you are the enemy. And in many ways, you’re not merely the political ‘enemy,’ you’re also a reprehensible human being.”
