“‘Exodus is an institution in the conservative Christian world, but we’ve ceased to be a living, breathing organism,’ said Alan Chambers, Exodus’ former president, in a statement. ‘For quite some time we’ve been imprisoned in a worldview that’s neither honoring toward our fellow human beings, nor biblical.'”

Alan Chambers, former head of Exodus International, dropped the group’s mission, apparently feeling imprisoned by the hope of lives transformed from homosexual expression that God calls sin. The mission did not honor homosexual desire, that is true. But it honored the Lord who made us male and female and gave us His blessing of the covenant of male-female marriage. This design was first revealed in Genesis 1 and reiterated by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 19 and Mark 10. All expressions of sexual behavior outside that covenant relationship have been prohibited by scripture, while the New Testament gives no license to continue in sin. Jude 1:4-7 states this very clearly.
In fact, the vice lists in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and 1 Timothy 1 definitely make this clear as well. Of course, we must also look to Romans chapter 1, as well, to see the seriousness of sexual sin–all sexual immorality, of which homosexual sexual behavior is one form. And then the letters to the churches in Revelation, particularly in chapter 3: 14-16:
But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of immorality. So you also have some who in the same way hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Therefore repent; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of My mouth.
And the letter to Thyatira, Revelations 3:19-29:
The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this:
“I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first. But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. I gave her time to repent, and she does not want to repent of her immorality. Behold, I will throw her on a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. And I will kill her children with pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not known the deep things of Satan, as they call them—I place no other burden on you. Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come. He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to pieces, as I also have received authority from My Father; and I will give him the morning star. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
Was Exodus’ world-view of Jesus’ redemption and restoration of homosexual sinners unbiblical, as Alan Chambers claims? I beg to differ, as does the Word of God. To read it for yourselves, take a look at 1 Cor. 6:9-11. Paul knew those formerly practicing homosexual behavior who “were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”
The call of God is for those who are gay identified to repent of an identity based in sin and those who are engaging in homosexuality to confess, repent and be reconciled to God. The beauty of living in right relationship with Him is worth it all. Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matt 11:30)
Who is Alan Chambers to differ with the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze? I’m not too worried about what Mr. Chambers has to say, but much more concerned about what our Lord Jesus has to say!
