NBC reporter Chuck Todd said the Clintons’ ferocious pushback this week against rumors of Hillary’s failing health proves they’re ready for an “ugly” presidential election in 2016 — adding that “we’re not gonna have a ‘Hope and Change’ election.”
Todd appeared Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to discuss this week’s confrontation between the Clintons and former Republican strategist Karl Rove, who suggested early this week that Hillary may have brain damage from an earlier concussion.
Bill Clinton publicly mocked the comments, Hillary surrogates rushed to her defense and the former secretary of state’s spokesperson put out a scathing rebuke.
“To me, the thing that I learned this week from this little spat was how the Clintons are ready,” Todd claimed. “It was a very aggressive pushback. Forget what Clinton did, he had a lighter touch, a little more humor.”
“But that statement that they put out, that told you we’re not going to have a ‘Hope and Change’ election in ‘08,” he continued. “We’re going to have a no-holds-barred, old-fashioned, ugly fight. ’88, ’92 — think that. And the Clinton team seems ready. They seem ready to fight that way.”
“It’s going to be an ugly race,” Todd concluded. “I have to say I’m not looking forward to that tone and tenure in ’16.”
