According to Harbi Elabed, the father of Tlaib Rashida, reported back in 2010 that his daughter lied about her place of residence on an election affidavit back in 2008.
She claimed to be a resident of Detroit in 2008 when she ran Michigan House of Representatives from the 12th Michigan congressional district (now the 6th district).
The address she used was that of her father, but according to her father, she never lived at the house.
After her dad told the media that his daughter lied about her residence, a charge that should have disqualified her from holding the office she was elected to, she was again elected the Michigan House for a second term.

The Daily Wire – Rashida Tlaib’s Father Says She ‘Lied Big-Time To Get Elected’ In Resurfaced 2010 Newspaper Article – In a March 11, 2010 newspaper article in The Detroit News, Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s (D-MI) father accused her of lying “big-time to get elected” by falsifying her address on an election affidavit.
Tlaib’s father, Harbi Elabed, made the accusations against Tlaib, who at the time was a freshman state-level representative from the 12th District in Detroit’s Southwest side. The newspaper article was scrubbed from the internet when The Detroit News migrated to a new website but was available in a subscription-based digital archive. The Detroit News reported:
He said his daughter misrepresented her residency when she signed an election affidavit in 2008 with the Wayne County Clerk claiming she was a citizen of Detroit.
According to that affidavit, Tlaib claimed she lived at 9123 Rathbone in Detroit. That house is owned in part by her father, Harbi Elabed, and he now says she did not live there and he was only recently made aware that she had claimed so….
Tlaib’s father, who is a Palestinian immigrant who was born near the West Bank, said his daughter lied-big time and that he never taught her to lie.
He said that she lived in Dearborn with her husband and son.
Tlaib’s mother is also a Palestinian immigrant who was born near the city of Ramallah, located in the West Bank, a short distance north of Jerusalem.
Knowing the Palestinian origin of her parents, it’s no surprise when you hear Tlaib’s views on Israel.
