So Are Libs Cool with the Bible, or No?

Barb Wire

I admit I don’t get it.  I just don’t understand.  And it would be really helpful if the left could just make up their mind on this whole Bible thing.  They spend the vast majority of their time mocking it as outdated, antiquated, pro-slavery, homophobic and bigoted, written by a bunch of un-educated Bronze Age sheep herders who were misogynistic buffoons.

But then the next moment I turn around they seem to have this burning desire to justify their latest rebellion to God by co-opting the Bible and pretending it validates what they’re doing.  Why?  It seems to make sense that if the Bible is backwards fantasy the left would be better served if the Bible didn’t agree with what they wanted to do.  Yet they write books suggesting that the Bible condones homosexuality, pot smoking and a host of other “progressive” cultural objectives.

And then there’s Sir Elton John who threw this out in a recent interview:

‘If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that He was and the great person that He was, saying this could not happen,’ John told Sky News. ‘He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that’s what the church should be about.’

There’s so much ignorance in that statement it’s tough to know where to start.  But how about we begin here…Jesus Christ is alive today, Elton.  That’s what the resurrection was all about.  Next, Jesus wasn’t a Christian person, Christians are those who came after Christ’s ascension and chose to follow His commands and accept the gift of grace he freely offers to all who repent.

And that repentance thing is where Elton’s comment went haywire.  Jesus was about love and compassion and forgiveness to be sure.  But He showed love and compassion by offering people redemption from their sins if they would just confess them.  And he offered forgiveness to all those who truly sought it.  What He didn’t do was condone sinful behavior or leave anyone with the impression that sins should be tolerated, embraced or accepted.

Jesus never “brought people together” around sinful conduct.  In fact, He was so serious about resisting sinful behavior that He noted His message of truth would, “not bring peace, but division” to earth.  There are two choices, two paths, two roads that we can choose.  His or ours.

The left needs to decide which they want to travel.  And despite what they may be fooling themselves into believing, when you attempt to hijack and co-opt Jesus and the Bible to say and advocate something they do not, you are undoubtedly choosing the latter.
