Just a few thoughts…

Why is it so easy to say “love is love,” but so difficult to say “sin is sin”? Could it be because sinners love their sin?

In 38 states, untaxed welfare benefits are more generous than average starting salaries for a secretary, says the Cato Institute. In three states, welfare pays more than entry-level computer programmers. In 34 states, welfare pays better than minimum wage. In Hawaii, you’d have to earn $60,590 before taxes to make more than untaxed welfare benefits.

Is this important? Uncle Sam isn’t based on someone in government, but on a government private contractor.

Hillary Clinton’s home-brew IT guy says he’ll take the Fifth Amendment if called to testify about her emails. Rose Mary Woods at least testified.

Over 10 years, 5 million people left California, many because of high taxes. I’m betting most were tax-paying people. Substantially fewer moved into California during that time. My guess is most are not tax-paying, or at least not in the amounts of those who left.

Déjà vu all over again. Obama is on the verge of establishing a major policy despite the opposition of most Americans and virtually all congressional Republicans. First time, it was Obamacare. This time, it’s Obama-doesn’t-care Iranian nuclear weapon capability. Obamacare was a trail of broken promises and costly consequences. Add nukes to that formula. What could go wrong?

What happened to the most transparent administration in history? There’s probably an explanation in the private email accounts of Obama’s former Secretary of State, science czar, EPA boss, secretaries of Agriculture, Labor and Health & Human Services and the woman at the IRS in charge of targeting political opponents.

The Nevada Obamacare co-op got $65 million in taxpayer loans and promised to turn a $371,000 profit. Instead, it lost $15 million. They blamed it on “challenging market conditions.” Aren’t “challenging market conditions” what you get when the government corrupts normal supply and demand?

Planned Parenthood baby-killing, body-part-harvesting entrepreneurs assure us what they do to the pre-born without the children’s permission is entirely legal and advances medical science. Wasn’t that what the Nazis said about their experiments on unwilling Jews in concentration camps?

What religion forces unbelievers to conform to its doctrine, forces conversion to its way of thinking and uses the government to punish the unfaithful? Nope, not Islam. Not here anyway. Not yet anyway. Try secular humanism.

There really are no atheists. There are those who worship the true God, and those who worship idols of their own making, whether it’s something carved from stone, or themselves, their lusts or fanciful utopias.

If religious people are forced to comply with the new normal of homosexuality and recognize same-sex marriage, transgendered rights and the consequential anti-discrimination in hiring and membership, churches that agree will retain their tax-exemptions, but will let go of their Christian doctrine. Only true believers will be penalized financially. We are about to learn which Christians love their money more than their Lord.

If you think hate crimes are a good idea, understand they are spawned by the totalitarian notion that even what people think must comply with government’s dictates. As old Joe Stalin put it, “We will mercilessly destroy anyone who, by his deeds or his thoughts – yes, his thoughts – threatens the unity of the socialist state.”

More than half of U.S. immigrants are on some form of welfare. How many would be on welfare if immigrants weren’t allowed to collect it? Yeah, none. How many would even be immigrants? As Milton Freidman said, you can’t have open borders in a welfare state. You might as well hang a sign at the border, “Y’all come! Belly up to the counter, it’s all you can eat!”

Why since 1991 have Americans bought 170 million guns and crime has declined 51 percent, but what we hear about instead is a nut case homosexual racist who legally bought a gun and murdered two TV journalists? Therefore, legally purchased guns cause crime? Huh?

We’re told a research study discovered conservatives are more likely to be happily married. They really needed a study?

Why is it supposed to be loving and tolerant to tell someone who is condemning his soul to eternal hell that continuing to engage in his sin is OK?

I’m not Catholic, but one of the most illuminating publications I regularly read is Crisis magazine, written by Catholic laity. Here’s a line from a recent column by Clifford Staples that pretty much sums up what’s wrong:

“Our self-defeating pursuit of happiness is based on the lie at the core of the modern age, which is that man is autonomous and self-sufficient, capable of solving any real or imagined problems with man-made solutions, primarily technology and politics….modernity’s ideologues and apologists would have us continue to believe that we can save ourselves from ourselves by ourselves…”

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Barb Wire.
