IRS Issues New Threats Against Conservative Groups

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told USA Today that his scandal-embroiled agency will, despite having been caught red-handed targeting only conservative organizations for government abuse, rewrite regulations, nonetheless, regarding the “political” activities of non-profit organizations like Liberty Counsel Action. This is a blatant move to ramp-up anti-conservative targeting by the IRS.

Koskinen acknowledged that the comments from over 150,000 citizens and complaints from organizations on both the left and right led to the determination that the proposed regulations go too far, but he didn’t elaborate on how much they’ll be reined in.

Koskinen told USA Today:

“There are very thoughtful comments and concerns, and one of the questions that has evoked a lot of comment is, once you define what political activity is, to what organizations should it apply in the 501(c) context and how much of it should be allowed? All of that is going to be very important.”

Liberty Counsel Action was among the first 501(c)(4) organizations to cry “foul” over the extremely overreaching and subjective regulations.

The devil is in the details.

Much like every initiative the Obama administration has undertaken, the small print often contains great threats to liberty. The threat to us is both in what we can see and in what we can’t see. The administration usually includes some element of subjectivity in guidelines, which is an extremely dangerous pitfall depending on who is doing the interpretation.

Even after Nancy Pelosi’s now infamous Obamacare statement, “But we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it,” we found ourselves faced with mandates that duped members of congress and the American people.

The new regulations will be enforced by the most feared of all federal agencies. IRS officials will pick and choose who and what are in violation of their guidelines. They will interpret what constitutes “political activity” and issue the “death penalty” for infringements.irswar-coins-fb (3)

What’s more, the new set of regulations exempts prominent liberal lobbying groups like labor unions. And consider Barack Obama’s Organizing for Action, a 501(c)(4) organization. Do you really believe it will be held to the same IRS standards as Liberty Counsel Action?

Simply stated, your voice, along with tens of thousands of other Liberty Counsel Action team members and millions of other conservative Americans, will be corporately silenced if these new regulations are allowed to go into effect.

That is why we are calling on the Senate to pass S.2011, the Stop Targeting of Political Beliefs by the IRS Act.

The bill is currently locked away in the Democrat-controlled Senate Committee on Finance: Taxation and IRS Oversight.

These Orwellian tactics crafted by the Obama administration are extremely dangerous to the free speech of every American while being interpreted and enforced by the brute power of the Internal Revenue Service.

The very function of Liberty Counsel Action and other pro-liberty 501 (c)(4) organizations is under threat. America must stand together against this overt politicization of the IRS.

(Please, click here to fax the Senate and demand that they take action to stop the implementation of new IRS regulations! We must send a tsunami of faxes to be waiting for them when they return to Capitol Hill.)
