On Glenn Beck and the Border Crisis

Barb Wire

I’m very pro-sovereignty and anti-amnesty in case you hadn’t previously picked up on that. However, for the life of me I don’t understand the criticism some conservatives are giving people like Glenn Beck for mounting a PRIVATE effort to help the thousands of children caught in the middle of our government’s lawlessness, and their governments’ corruption.

If you’re one of those people, I refer you to James 1:27:

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

These children are de facto orphans, being used as pawns by corrupt governments for their various immoral and wicked motivations. Most of which they could not understand. Nevertheless, they are every bit made in the image of God as any of us are that do understand what is taking place here.

Beck and others are doing this PRIVATELY with the fruits of their own productivity. The Bible I read BOTH affirms this sort of charity as well as the rule of law. Which is why I’m BOTH anti-amnesty but also pro-charity for these children here, because so is the Word of God. This is the moral equivalent of walking and chewing gum at the same time, and adults should be able to draw discerning distinctions like this in a fallen world.

It’s impossible to make a Biblical case for amnesty without seriously distorting the Scriptures. It’s also impossible to make a Biblical case for not helping downtrodden children with your own prosperity if you choose to do so, without seriously distorting the Scriptures as well.

Have we become so incapable of critical thinking that we’ve now become our own stereotype?
