The transgender teen who reported he was sexually assaulted in a California school bathroom has admitted to lying about the story, police said Tuesday.
The student, who has not been named, told authorities that he went into the boy’s restroom in the Hercules Middle-High School Monday around 11 a.m. and was physically and sexually assaulted by three other male students while trying to leave.
The teen went to a nurse at the student health center after the alleged attack and then to a hospital, where a rape kit was administered. The 15-year-old never identified his attackers by name, but police said they were looking for three males between the ages of 16 and 17.
Officers questioned several people on campus Monday, but by Tuesday Hercules Police said they were unable to verify the victim’s report.
“As the investigation continued officers were unable to substantiate the facts of the victim’s statement; including the time frame of the incident, and the lack of physical injuries to the victim’s head, face and hands,” according to a statement released by officials Tuesday.
After being unable to verify certain facts, the 15-year-old admitted to lying about the story, police said. The case is now closed and investigators will consider whether to press charges against the student for making up the report.
