In states like California and New Jersey, it’s actually illegal to provide counseling for a minor-aged youth hoping to overcome unwanted homosexual urges. However, if the same child were to express gender confusion (Gender Identity Disorder or Gender Dysphoria) and a desire to live as a transgender individual, then the sexual anarchy movement thinks it’s perfectly okay to start taking dangerous hormone blocking drugs, wearing clothing that’s incongruent with biological gender, and even planning for future surgical mutilation.
The Whittington family of San Diego, California received a bizarre award last Thursday at the Sixth Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast. At the event, they unveiled a video depicting how they raised their daughter Ryland to be a “boy.” The family claims that they did so to help their child live according to her true “gender identity.”
The Daily Mail reports that the family won the Inspiration Award, which was named for Harvey Milk, San Francisco’s first openly homosexual, child predator politician.
For the Whittingtons, the first curveball came when they discovered that Ryland, then aged one, was born with a severe hearing impairment. The parents were heartbroken, but thanks to cochlear implants their child was able to communicate. Not long after learning to speak, Ryland declared to [her] parents: ‘I am a boy.’
Even though the toddler lived in a room painted pink, sported long blonde hair and was dressed by his parents in girly outfits, [she] naturally gravitated toward everything masculine. At first, Jeff Whittington, a former firefighter-turned-real estate agent, and his wife, ignored the signs, thinking that Ryland was just a tomboy, or that it was a phase that soon will pass. But by the time Ryland turned five, [she] started actively rejecting everything feminine and soon was overwhelmed with a sense of shame.
‘When the family dies, I will cut my hair so I could be a boy,’ Ryland had told [her] parents on one occasion.
Another time, the child exclaimed in anguish: ‘Why did God make me like this?’
The Whittingtons sought professional help and began researching the topic of childhood gender identity on their own. There was only one obvious answer: their child was transgender.
‘One of the most inspiring things that Harvey Milk had done as far as our family is concerned,’ said Jeff Whittington, ‘was to encourage people to come out; to let their voices be heard; break down the walls, break down the barriers and start allowing people to see them for their authentic selves and be true to themselves.
He added, ‘This is our coming out … this is us making our voices heard.’
It’s very tragic that the Whittingtons have chosen to abandon their proper role as parents, which involves guiding their child towards an appropriate and gender-harmonious self-image. And it’s also extremely alarming to hear them give credit to a sexual deviant like Harvey Milk. “The predatory nature of Milk’s personal relationships,” Kirsten Anderson explains, “led at least two of his young sexual partners to commit suicide – one of them Jack Galen McKinley, a 16-year-old runaway from Maryland.”
The American psychologist and sexologist Dr. Kenneth Zucker is the head of the child and adolescent gender identity clinic at Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Zucker is considered the international authority in his field, and according to Xtra!, “his clinic has probably diagnosed more GIDC than any other facility in the world.” In 2007, Zucker was selected to be a member of the American Psychological Association Task Force on Gender Identity, Gender Variance, and Intersex Conditions, and in 2008, he was named chair of the American Psychiatric Association workgroup on “Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders” for the 2012 edition of their Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. His efforts with GID patients has documented an 80-90% success rate in preventing children from later identifying as transgender.
According to psychiatrist and Fox News contributor Dr. Keith Ablow, “I don’t believe we have definitive data that any male or female soul has ever in the history of the world been born into the wrong anatomic gender.”
“I am not convinced that the best option for children who are uncomfortable with their gender is to rapidly transition them to the opposite gender,” Ablow recently told LifeSiteNews. “I believe that on reflection, it will be shown that other paths may be the wiser paths.”
Dr. Paul Rodney McHugh is a psychiatrist and Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Speaking of gender reassignment surgery (sex change operations) for those who later decide to go to such an extreme, McHugh stated, “It is not obvious how this patient’s feeling that he is a woman trapped in a man’s body differs from the feeling of a patient with anorexia nervosa that she is obese despite her emaciated, cachectic state. We don’t do liposuction on anorexics. Why amputate the genitals of these poor men? Surely, the fault is in the mind not the member.” And something similar could actually be said about females who undergo sex change operations as well. The problem is psychological, not physiological.
Ultimately, there is hope for those suffering with gender confusion issues. Several psychologists and psychiatrists agree that treatment is available and effective.
As Christians, we also know that God is the greatest source of hope and help for such individuals.
