I’m still hurting over the news that, according to a new report by the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, more black babies were aborted in New York City than were born in 2012. I can’t get over it. How can this be? And why is there not a huge outcry against this senseless pattern?
Numbers don’t lie.
There were 31,328 abortions of black babies and only 24,758 black children born. That’s 6,570 more abortions than births. And it makes up almost half the total number of abortions in NYC. If you combine Hispanic women, who had 22,917 abortions, for about 31 percent of the total, these two minority groups alone make 73 percent of the total number of abortions!
As a Hispanic, my heart breaks.
Last week, I wrote about radical liberals showing little regard for true injustice by using race for political gain. And here is yet another example. They are the number one supporters of the abortion industry. They stand up for Planned Parenthood every chance they get.
Where are their voices on this? Why are they silent? Do the millions of dollars their favorite political people get from abortion providers like Planned Parenthood affect their actions?
A quick search on the Planned Parenthood website revealed 58 “Health Centers” in New York. That’s fifty-eight! Only ten of those say they do only “abortion referrals.” The other 48 say they have “abortion services.” All except one dispense the abortion-inducing “Morning-After Pill.”
Other investigations have already revealed that Planned Parenthood has 79 percent of its surgical abortion facilities within walking distance of African-American or Hispanic neighborhoods.
But that’s not disturbing to these liberal elites. Some African-American and Hispanic pastors and concerned citizens have tried to raise their voices with efforts like “protectingblacklife.org” and “blackgenocide.org” but they are ignored by the liberal political elite. They are treated as traitors and worse.
Dr. Alveda King, niece of civil rights hero Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., has been a strong voice against this injustice. She has famously said that, “The great irony is that abortion has done what the Klan only dreamed of.” She has exposed the vile beginnings of Planned Parenthood, whose founder, Margaret Sanger, was a famed eugenicist who wanted a “cleaner race.”
There is no debate about Sanger’s wicked views. You can see and hear her for yourself. For example, you can read about the Negro Project, which she initiated in 1939. You can also see the interview she did with Mike Wallace in 1957, where she said, “I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children into the world — that have disease from their parents, that have no chance in the world to be a human being practically. Delinquents, prisoners, all sorts of things just marked when they’re born. That to me is the greatest sin — that people can — can commit.”
These are the beginnings of Planned Parenthood. That’s part of their history. One of the 58 Planned Parenthood clinics in New York is still named the Margaret Sanger Center. I wonder how many minorities know the history as they go into the clinic.
But liberal elites purposely ignore these facts. President Barack Obama has actually praised their long history. “[F]or nearly a century now, one core principle has guided everything all of you do — that women should be allowed to make their own decisions about their own health. It’s a simple principle,” he said at their 2013 National Conference, where he became the first sitting president to address Planned Parenthood.
This cannot be. African-Americans — and Hispanics — especially cannot stay silent on this. I don’t care what your politics are; please do not allow our community to be targeted in this way. It’s time we stand united for our own families.
