There is no doubt that California is the most liberal or most anti-American anti-Christian and pro-socialist state in all of America.
They were the first state to pass a cap-and-trade law, which drove a number of businesses out of the state.
California’s Democrats in control have passed many ultra-strict gun control laws and anti-Christian laws like banning Christian counseling or therapy for gender confused individuals.
The latest counter-productive law is a gender quota for corporate boards, requiring at least woman on every board by the end of 2019.
However, such a quota can easily backfire and hurt the efforts of many promoting the cause of women in the workplace.
(Forbes) – Governor Jerry Brown just signed a first-in-the-nation law to require all California companies to have at least one female board member by the end of 2019. Women’s advocates who celebrate this as breaking a stubborn glass ceiling ignore how women could get cut by the shards.
Already, absent any legal requirement for gender diversity, corporate boards are adding female members. Catalyst reports that the share of women on corporate boards increased by 54 percent for global corporations between 2010 and 2015. Women still only held 15 percent of those corporate board positions and 20 percent of those on S&P corporations in the U.S., but at least the numbers have steadily moved in the right direction.
Quota advocates note that more than a quarter of California’s publicly-traded companies have no female board members. Adding one woman over the next year, and then one or two more depending on the size of the board before the end of 2021 as the law requires, shouldn’t be a heavy lift…
I’ve personally seen the negative impact of minority quotas in the past.
I worked for a utility that was required to hire at least 20% minority (ethnic and gender) for every position
There were a number of positions, like those operating heavy equipment where there weren’t enough qualified minorities to hire, so the company was forced to bypass fully qualified white males to hire females or ethnic minorities and then try to train them on the job.
The result is that people got hurt, some seriously and equipment and property was damaged or destroyed, all for the sake of meeting the stupid quota.
Companies in California are now facing the same problems with meeting the board quota and this could damage lead to bad or poor decisions that could be costly for the company and workers, let alone damage the push to get more women into corporate board rooms.
Besides, such a law means that there will be cases of better qualified men being passed up for positions because of the gender quota, which in reality is sexual discrimination.
