BREAKING: Notre Dame Cathedral In Paris Burning Down

The famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is on fire and at the time of this writing, the fire appears to be quite devastating.

The main iconic spire that the cathedral is known for has already collapsed.

Work began on the cathedral in 1160 and for the most part, was completed 100 years later in 1260.

Over the centuries, the cathedral has been added onto and modified.

The cathedral suffered extensive damage during the French Revolution in the 1790s and had to be repaired and parts rebuilt.

On Monday, fire could be seen coming out of the spire, the site of Victor Hugo’s famous novel, the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Fox News – Massive fire breaks out in Notre Dame cathedral in Paris – The famed Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France was engulfed in flames on Monday leading to the collapse of the structure’s main spire. The intense flames leaped out from two of its bell towers minutes before the spire collapsed, and later spread to one of the cathedral’s iconic rectangular towers.

A church spokesman told French media that all of Notre Dame cathedral’s frame is burning after the spire collapsed.

“Everything is burning, nothing will remain from the frame,” Notre Dame spokesman Andre Finot told local outlets.

So far, the cause of the fire is not known.

With a structure that old, anything from old decaying and faulty wiring to a misplaced candle could have ignited the fire.

The age of materials means that they are probably very dry and easily ignited and will spread the flames quickly.

The hearts of many French people are breaking, as are the hearts of many worldwide.
