Attorney General Nominee William Barr has History of Pro-Gun Control

Yesterday, I posted why I oppose William Barr as the next Attorney General of the United States.

I stated the reason was because he did not believe in arresting or taking legal actions against Hillary Clinton, saying that jailing political opponents makes America like a banana republic.

I know add another HUGE reason why I Barr’s confirmation.

In the past he has supported a number of gun control issues that many of us believe to be violations of the Second Amendment.

He supported the Brady Bill, banning of semi-automatic firearms (the DeConcini amendment to a crime bill).

Guns in the News – WILLIAM BARR IS A GUN CONFISCATION ADVOCATE – People need to understand something: just because a man says some things you like and wears your political team’s jersey does not make him right nor lawful.  President Trump has said good and bad things.  President Trump has engaged in both constitutional and unconstitutional actions.  He has also appointed numerous unAmerican people to positions in our government with the latest having been Justice Brett Kavanaugh.  Now, he’s putting up William Barr for Attorney General, a man who is a gun confiscation advocate, which disqualifies him from the office.

William Barr served previously as Attorney General under President George H.W. Bush from 1991-1993.

While hearings for the position took place in 1991, Barr said:

On the assault weapon front, the proposal before us is the DeConcini amendment. And I think … I would support both the Brady Bill waiting period and the DeConcini [semi-auto ban] amendment, provided that they were parts of a broader and more comprehensive crime bill that included … very tough provisions on the use of firearms in crimes and illegal purchase and trading in firearms…

Barr endorsed both the Brady Check portion of the Brady Bill and the semi-auto ban, although he did express a preference for magazine bans: “I would prefer a limitation on the clip [sic] size.” …

One has to wonder why President Trump chose Barr since some of his views are opposite those of Trump’s.

Is Barr a sign that Trump is beginning to capitulate on some of the stands that got him elected?

Or, is he showing signs of weakening and caving in to appease Democrats?

The only other possibility is that Trump didn’t do his homework well enough and listened to someone under him who does not share the same views as the President.

Regardless, there are other well qualified conservative candidates available for Attorney General and William Barr is NOT one of them.
