America Described Over 2,700 Years Ago

The America we see today is far from the America that I knew when I was a boy. America then was a nation that honored Christianity and the institution of marriage and family. It was a nation where many people respected each other and thought about others instead of just themselves. It was a nation where authority was respected instead of ridiculed at every opportunity.

That is definitely not the America we see around us today. Today’s America openly mocks and persecutes Christianity and Christians. The America today has destroyed the institutions of marriage and family. There is little respect for each other, the property of others or for authority. In fact, the trend is to mock and ridicule authority at every opportunity.

I don’t want primetime television shows anymore because they make father, pastors, police and bosses all to look stupid. They mock family values and openly promote everything ugly and evil and make it look like the norm.

In the past, I wrote how Romans 1:18-32 reveals that America is already under God’s judgement for how our nation has turned against Him and his statutes.

However, there are other references in Scripture that describe America as we see it today.

To begin with, take a look at Genesis 6:5:

“The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

During our evening devotions, we were reading Psalm 73 and could not help but realize that versus 4-12, which states:

“For they have no pangs until death;
their bodies are fat and sleek.
They are not in trouble as others are;
they are not stricken like the rest of mankind.
Therefore pride is their necklace;
violence covers them as a garment.
Their eyes swell out through fatness;
their hearts overflow with follies.
They scoff and speak with malice;
loftily they threaten oppression.
They set their mouths against the heavens,
and their tongue struts through the earth.
Therefore his people turn back to them,
and find no fault in them.
And they say, “How can God know?
Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
Behold, these are the wicked;
always at ease, they increase in riches.

It is estimated that this Psalm was written around 710 BC, over 2,700 years ago, but it so describes today’s America.

How often have you heard liberal critics say that the Bible is archaic and has no relevance to today’s world? If I had a hundred dollars for every time I’ve heard or read that criticism of the Bible, I’d buy a new SUV.

However, God’s Word is as true today as it was long ago and it will still be relevant as long as mankind walks the earth.

Then there are those misguided Christians who claim that the Old Testament doesn’t pertain anymore because of Jesus. What they fail to understand is that Jesus said He was not here to do away with the Law but to fulfill the Law and in that, He fulfilled the Temple Law, but not the rest of the Law. He didn’t do away with the Ten Commandments nor God’s statutes on marriage, family, murder, lying, stealing, coveting, nor did He do away with God’s ordinance against things like homosexuality.

Yes, Scripture written centuries ago definitely describes today’s America and gives us clear warning of that same way of life.
