Christian Center Vandalized With ‘F— Trump’ Graffiti

Millsaps College has confirmed that several students were involved in defacing its Christian Center with anti-Trump graffiti last year.
In a statement to Campus Reform, a school spokesperson said that the incident “occurred at the end of the spring semester in 2017, after the last classes had met on campus,” and that the entire campus community “had been notified that the Christian Center would be closed at the end of the semester for renovations.”
According to Big League Politics, which recently exposed the story with help from a concerned student, professors and students alike participated in the vandalism, later posing next to the graffitied walls of what appears to be a room within the Christian Center.
One student told the publication that the alleged perpetrators vandalized the center while it was still being renovated, and noted that the administration “just repainted the building,” adding that “No one, including the four faculty members in the pictures, got in trouble, as far as I know.”
Images obtained by Campus Reform appear to show the inside walls of the center graffitied with messages like “F—- Trump,” “Bush did 9/11,” “Rename the CC after a nasty woman,” “RIP CC,” and dozens more.
“Two months after the fact, the administration was saying that the students will be held responsible, but no one confirmed that they had been,” the anonymous student added.
Millsaps’ Director of Communications and Marketing, however, told Big League Politics that he was not personally aware of the vandalism, but stressed that “defamation of character or destruction of property is unacceptable at Millsaps College.”
“The administration found this incident to be offensive, hurtful, and contrary to our values of encouraging civil and respectful discourse between disparate points of view, and subsequently took swift action to address it,” the official told the news source. “The individuals involved underwent a disciplinary process, and the rooms were repainted as soon as possible.”
While a school official told Campus Reform that “some of the students in the photos were involved in the incident,” he insisted that “due to confidentiality concerns, we cannot name the specific students.”
The images provided to Big League Politics do, however, include the unmistakable visage of Dr. James E. Bowley, a professor of Religious Studies at Millsaps.
“This incident was not related to any academic program, class, or classes,” the school spokesperson added. “With regard to the presence of faculty, Millsaps is a small campus and faculty and students are sometimes in common spaces together.”
Campus Reform reached out to Bowley for comment, but has not received a response.
