The Cause of the Shooting: No Political Remedy Exists for Hate
Most of America awoke on Monday to hear the story of another mass murder committed within our borders. We quickly learned that Las Vegas, Nevada was the site of what becomes the most deadly shooting of its kind in U.S. history.
The location of this horrific crime was the Hwy 91 Harvest concert–a country and western music event. According to witnesses, about twenty minutes into the concert, gunshots were heard coming from the Mandalay Bay Hotel, next to the outdoor concert venue.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff, Joseph Lombardo, stated that over fifty-eight people were killed and more than five hundred were injured when 62-year-old Stephen Paddock, a white male, began shooting country music fans from the thirty-second floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
Former NBC News anchor, Tom Brokaw, has already blown his dog whistle, leaking what will undoubtedly be the Democrat/fake news narrative for the coming days and weeks. Brokaw, departed from his prior role as a journalist in order to assume the mantle of political analyst, offering the same mindless and untenable remedy for similar acts of deadly violence that we have come to expect from the left. Before anyone had reported the first fact about the weapons used by Stephen Paddock to slaughter his victims, Brokaw asserted that the obvious solution is to ban the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
Such recklessly short-sighted comments from the left-wing political news media are as unfortunate as they are predictable. They demonstrate a stupefying ignorance of human nature as well as the limitations of politics. But they also offer cover to the agents of hate that Brokaw is akin to.
For the past ten months, President Trump, his supporters and the United States, itself, have been treated to an onslaught of lies and hate perpetrated, amplified, and promulgated by the corrupt leftist media. From the obscene “Women’s March” and violent Antifa protests to Black Lives Matter inspired riots on college campuses and NFL players’ repugnant and loathsome displays of counter-American denigration of the national anthem, the network news media has participated in a campaign to poison the minds of millions of our citizens.
As they attempted with President George W. Bush, Democrats and the media are in a desperate quest to accomplish two goals–attack the legitimacy of the election and cripple President Trump’s ability to enact his agenda. The media has proven that there is no lie too despicable, nor any false implication too far-fetched to be employed in order to achieve their political objective.
In determining how to best address mass murders like the one that occurred in Las Vegas, doing the wrong thing is always worse than doing nothing. The United States hasn’t the financial or the law-enforcement resources to safeguard innocent people from the kind of carnage wrought by Stephen Paddock. Should all the firearms in America be banned, people who hate will simply find other ways to kill. After all, the 9/11 hijackers were armed only with box-cutters, and yet they killed five thousand Americans.
Abdul Razak Ali Artan injured 11 people on the campus of Ohio State University using only an automobile and a butcher knife. The Tunisian-born Mohamed Lajouaiej Bouel killed eighty-four people in Nice, France by running them down with a truck. Those who are determined to kill may use homemade bombs, knives, automobiles or toxins. There can never be fashioned, an effective public policy solution to human destruction motivated by hate.
President John Adams expertly articulated the root problem 250 years ago saying, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.” Democrats and their fake-news mouthpieces are today’s enemies of morality and religion. Their libelous charges, vicious slander and irrational hate are the toxic and deadly agents that foment the kind of violence that we observe and abhor.
News of the Las Vegas shooting is shocking, staggering and saddening, but it is not surprising. As long as we permit the politically-motivated enemies of freedom and liberty to pollute the minds of the weak-willed and the ignorant with lies and hate, deadly violence like what we have witnessed in Las Vegas, Columbus, Orlando and New York City will continue unabated.
Democrats and the media will do their worst to incite anger, rage and white-hot hatred against the N.R.A., in order to compel an irrational emotional reaction to the deaths in Las Vegas. When Republicans and President Trump reject calls for feckless and ineffective gun bans, they will be attacked, maligned and slandered.
But maybe this time, the American people will recognize that those who report the blaze are actually, the arsonists.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
