The Republican Party Platform: Finally, Pushback
I recall a while back reading a statement attributed to John Boehner, the former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. He was reported to have said that nobody reads the party platform. That may have been the case in the past, but if this one is ignored, there will be consequences to pay (2016 Republican National Platform).
After many disgusting years of Republican establishment types telling the American people one thing in its platform promises and proceeding to do other things, contrary to the people’s will, the 2016 platform has finally acknowledged the concerns of many conservatives.
Even so, attempts were made to subvert the platform by those seeking to inject the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender) agenda. As reported by Philip Wegmann in the online Heritage Foundation Daily Signal, the usual deceptive tactics that homosexual activists and other sex-driven groups employ were on display during the platform-development process. (See the Daily Signal: Delegates Accuse LGBT Coalition of Trying to Hijack GOP Platform.)
The article points out there was an attempt by agenda-driven activists to scrap the entire platform, even after fellow delegates had listened courteously to their arguments for the inclusion of divisive planks, and voted them down. Several conservative delegates were brave enough to expose the deceptive tactics of the activists so as to prevent a fake media story, according to the report.
Those of us conservatives, especially Christians, who actively oppose the homosexual and other deviant agendas know the tactics very well. Realizing there will never be majority acceptance of activists’ behaviors, they rely on media spin and corrupt judges to silence opposition.
One of the foremost conservative concerns addressed in the platform is the Obama administration’s assault on the military. A pernicious social engineering has pushed out many of the young patriots who volunteered because of love of country and a sense of personal duty. Coupled with the numbers leaving the services are those hesitant to volunteer because of the strain Obama-compliant military leaders have placed on the rank and file.
Travesties toward our armed forces cover a broad range, which include forced acceptance of homosexual sodomy, the infiltration of women who are not suited for many of the rigors of military training, the scrubbing of Christian support for the troops, and tying the hands of men in combat with burdensome regulations preventing them from waging successful campaigns.
The segment of the platform that addresses these issues is titled “America Resurgent” and it is well worth the read. For those interested, this is a link to a discussion on how the platform addresses the crises in our military, posted by the Center for Military Readiness (CMR): 2016 Republican National Platform Rejects Social Experimentation and Political Correctness in the Military.
Another major concern of conservatives is the Obama administration’s assault on America’s Judeo-Christian values. Its unabashed abuse of power has been a threat to all citizens who oppose such federal overreach. The platform forthrightly addresses these affronts to individual liberty and discusses how the party intends to eradicate them. That segment is titled “Great American Families, Education, Healthcare, and Criminal Justice.”
In fact the entire platform is a clarion cry to the progressive Left that we have had enough. It also serves notice to those who claim a form of conservatism that does not comport with the values on which the Founders established the nation. The Table of Contents reads as follows: Restoring the American Dream; A Rebirth of Constitutional Government; America’s Natural Resources: Agriculture, Energy, and the Environment; Government Reform; Great American Families, Education, Healthcare, and Criminal Justice; and America Resurgent. The document encompasses the full range of what is so wrong with America and why these wrongs must be made right.
Going forth, patriotic conservatives must be prepared to hold every candidate’s feet to the fire on living up to this platform, especially Donald Trump and Mike Pence. Trump’s leanings are liberal on some of the social issues, especially the sex activists’ agenda, and Pence has caved in the past when confronted with withering pressure from biased media and shrill leftist activists. So, it will be up to us, the American people who oppose the Left, to call these leaders to task for how they respond to such pressure. No more days of ignoring the platform. Our survival as a nation is at stake. Too much to lose.
