Planned Parenthood Indictment

Sandra Merritt Accusers Start to Backpedal

Faith and Freedom with Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver and BarbWire’s Matt Barber… An 11-minute weekday radio program discussing hot topics in the area of religious liberty, the sanctity of human life and the family.

Sandra Merritt appeared before a Houston criminal court judge and the District Attorney automatically began to backpedal.

Mat Staver: Matt, everyone knows about the situation in Houston with the criminal indictment against Sandra Merritt and David Daleiden. In this particular case instead of indicting Planned Parenthood, the District Grand Jury there in state court indicted these two undercover investigators.

And we were in court just a few days ago with our local criminal defense attorneys that we’ve added to our legal team to defend Sandra Merritt, and the amazing thing was the District Attorney’s office began to backpedal even before our first appearance before the court. And offered what’s called a “pre-trial diversion” dropping the felony charge that the Grand Jury indicted to a misdemeanor, and then eventually dismissing the case without ever going to court.

Now we haven’t actually responded and accepted that offer. We’re moving forward with discovery. But I think it underscores the weakness of this case.

Matt Barber: Well, that’s what happens when you abuse the legal system, the criminal justice system for political purposes. They’re trying to make a political statement here, there in Houston in Harris County. [The] DA’s office is abusing the criminal justice system to try and make an example of Sandra Merritt and David Daleiden for other pro-lifers. It’s as obvious as the nose on your face…
