Psalm 100:4 reads, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. That’s what Thanksgiving is all about—thanking God. But it is also about thanking others God has placed in our lives: family, friends, and even those who help us behind the scenes.
I spoke to a police officer this week who told me how someone had stopped and rolled down his window to say something to him. I’m sure that the officer braced himself for another unwarranted insult or accusation. But what the man said was simply, “Happy Thanksgiving.” The policeman said that had never happened to him before.
Yesterday I showed my thankfulness by overnighting a package of brownies to the police station. Many of them are working today while we’re home with our families.
