Carson, Trump Back Monitoring Mosques

Republican presidential candidates Dr. Ben Carson and Donald Trump support monitoring mosques to prevent the spread of radical Islam.

Both men were interviewed Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

Dr. Carson said he backs broad intelligence-monitoring of any place where there’s “a lot of radicalization.” Trump said he doesn’t want to close mosques, but he does want “to surveil mosques.”

Trump noted that mosques were monitored in New York City until the election of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Trump also said he would not rule out a database on all Muslims.

“I want a database for the refugees that — if they come into the country. We have no idea who these people are,” the business mogul said. “When the Syrian refugees are going to start pouring into this country, we don’t know if they’re ISIS, we don’t know if it’s a Trojan horse.”

“I definitely want a database and other checks and balances,” he reiterated. “We want to go with watchlists. We want to go with databases.”
