Boy Scouts Organization Demise

Faith and Freedom with Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver and BarbWire’s Matt Barber… An 11-minute weekday radio program discussing hot topics in the area of religious liberty, the sanctity of human life and the family.

Once a great organization, the Boy Scouts have made some terrible decisions that ultimately, I believe, will be the demise of this organization.

Mat Staver: Matt, the Boy Scouts not long ago issued a policy change and said that young boys can be homosexuals and they can still be part of the Scouts, which goes against their oath that they have to take, to be morally straight and upright. And then the Secretary Robert Gates — Former Secretary Robert Gates — the Defense Secretary, now with the Boys Scouts has steered the Boy Scouts into another terrible policy, and that’s even worse.

That the Scout leaders can be open homosexuals. So that’s nice. You have a leader who’s a man that’s wanting to have sex with other men and he’s going to be leading these young boys on camping trips out in the woods, hiking through the woods, camping, sleeping in the tents. This is going to be the future of the Scouts. Some people are saying enough is enough.

right now the Mormons are reconsidering their relationship with the Scouts, and currently they make up 35% of all Scouts are Mormon. This could become the demise of the Boy Scouts.

Matt Barber: Well, it really could, and I believe it will. We know for instance, in 1998 when the Canadian version of the Scouts did the same thing and homosexualized the Boy Scouts its membership rolls plummeted by over half in just five years. It forced camp closures, layoffs, huge budget cuts. And if we’re looking to the north for clues here, we could imagine that the current membership around 2.5 million of an already dwindling quickly of the Boy Scouts could plummet. If it followed suit it could plummet by over half.

Gates said, “For far too long the issue has divided and distracted us, the BSA. Now is the time to unite behind our shared belief in the extraordinary power of scouting to be a force of good.”

Well, talk about dividing and distracting! Now we have about 35% of potential Boy Scout organizations, affiliated with the Mormon Church saying that they’re going to break off and a number already have and joined Trail Life USA.
