deTocqueville Democracy

Can A Secularized America Survive?

(1 min Audio Report – Freedom’s Call)

Visiting the United States in the early nineteenth century, French historian and political thinker Alexis de Tocqueville wrote about the profound influence of religion on politics and civics.

In his classic work, Democracy in America, de Tocqueville wrote:

“America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.”

De Tocqueville wrote about our innovative Founding Fathers who were limited only by their virtues and moral boundaries.

“At the same time that the law permits the American people to do everything, religion prevents them from conceiving everything.”

Freedom will only reign when self-control and morality prevail.

For America to remain free, America needs revival — the next Great Awakening.
