Iraq Chemical Weapons Claim Renews Questions on Saddam’s Biological Weapons


Iraq contained unaccounted for chemical weapons prior to the 2003 American invasion, which U.S. forces located and destroyed according to a new report, and this claim renews questions on Iraqi biological weapons that U.S. forces also found and destroyed.

The New York Times reported on February 15 that a joint U.S. Army and CIA effort located, purchased and destroyed hundreds of chemical weapons from an Iraqi source. The Times based its article on what it said were personnel involved with the units. Most of these personnel were not identified. . . .

But perhaps the most interesting part of this new claim on Iraqi WMD is that the article states the 203rd Military Intelligence Battalion was the Army unit working with the CIA. A previous exclusive report at the Security and Culture Intelligencer revealed that the 203rd Military Intelligence Battalion was recognized with a Meritorious Unit Commendation for destroying chemical and biological weapons in Iraq between 2005 and 2006. . . .
