How many amendments does the U.S. Constitution have? Students in Arizona are going to have to know this and other basic information about our nation if they expect to graduate high school.
That’s because Arizona just became the first state in the nation to pass a law requiring high school students to pass a U.S. citizenship test. That means students will have answer at least 60 of 100 civics questions–much like the test new citizens take.
Behind the bill is the Joe Foss Institute, whose goal is to mark the 230th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution in 2017 with similar laws in all 50 states.
North Dakota’s House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the bill last week.
By the way, there are 27 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
