Little Girl Condemns Street Preacher: ‘Shut up!’
A recent video that has gone viral shows a young girl yelling at a street preacher on the streets of Salem, Massachusetts. She is seen yelling “shut up” and saying “no one wants to hear you, Jesus blah, blah, blah.” Robert Goss-Kennedy, a resident of Salem, filmed the young girl on the video and sold it for distribution on the site LiveLeak.com. However, the family of the girl threatened a lawsuit against the website if they didn’t remove the video which was shared over 60,000 times. Live Leak pulled the video and recommended that Goss-Kennedy delete the video off of his personal sites as well.
The ironic part of this story is that Goss-Kennedy, who captured the footage of the girl yelling at the street evangelist, was working on an art project about the intrusive nature of street preachers.
There’s a poem by Dorothy Law Nolte titled, “Children Learn What They Live.” The first two stanzas of the poem says, “If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn. If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.” Perhaps, the next art project for Goss-Kennedy should be about capturing reactions from children about the intrusive nature of what they are taught at home.
Goss-Kennedy has no plans to remove the video. “I didn’t break any laws. Public place…they weren’t watching their kid,” he said. “I just recorded what I saw.”
