How Does the GOP Win in Illinois? Recruit, Run, and Act Like a Democrat
The story goes that there was a notorious Mafioso who was gunned down on the streets of Chicago. The local priest refused to officiate at the Don’s memorial service when he was approached by the crime lord’s brother, “You will give the service for my brother and you will refer to him as a ‘Saint’ or, let’s just say, things will get real interesting in the parish, Father.” Needless to say, the priest agreed to do the service.
On the day of the memorial, the dead man’s criminal brother was sitting in the front row, the city press was in the back, and the church was full. Many in attendance knew that their honest priest was between a rock and a hard place. They didn’t want him to compromise his integrity but then again they didn’t want the inevitable chaos that would follow if he didn’t.
The priest began, “The man in the box in front of you was a cold-hearted, brute of a man – a veritable monster who conducted his life without a shred of decency and sponsored every despicable vice in this town from prostitution and extortion, to drug-dealing and murder. He was a cruel and empty Son of Belial who will have to answer for his treachery in front of the Judge of the quick and the dead. But compared to his brother… he was a “Saint.”
Voters in Illinois aren’t quite sure which of our two major gubernatorial candidates is in the box and which is in the front row but we all know that Pat Quinn and Bruce Rauner are the brothers in the story and not the priest.
If, at any time in the last 50 years, you asked a “Tea-Party,” Christian, or Conservative voter what it would take for them to vote for a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, ACLU supporting, Democrat policy funder, Democrat politician bundler for any Republican position – they wouldn’t give you an answer; they’d flog you for even asking such a ridiculous question.
Until they become so desperate to win at any cost that they run a Democrat to defeat a Democrat.
THIS JUST IN: Times are so desperate in Illinois that Christians/Conservatives MUST SACRIFICE their principles and come together to support the guy who takes out full page ads and airs commercials about his enthusiasm for abortion, supports alternative lifestyles, threatens newspaper reporters, covers up his past support of Democrat politicians and policies, green lights amnesty, and buys off his political opponents; so that we, in a united front, can defeat the guy who is for abortion, amnesty, pay-to-play, homosexual marriage, and political thuggery.
Makes perfect sense if you’re from Chicago, or so I’ve been told.
I know things are bad in Illinois but trampling the Republican platform to schlock for a liberal “promise fairy” is not going to turn this Obama wasteland back into the Land of Lincoln – not with the real power broker in Illinois, House Speaker Mike Madigan at the wheel. Madigan wields a super-majority of Democrats in the congress and his daughter, the state’s Attorney General, covers his six.
The unfortunate disconnect with the modern voter is that one must vote in every race even if there isn’t a valid choice that reaches the minimum standard. That, following a primary, the voter must choose between the lesser of two evils. This is situational ethics at best. At worst, well, it’s voting for evil.
Gone is the wisdom of our founding generation that a vote is sacred and it must be earned. The moment a vote is presumed and not earned, the voter becomes mere chattel to be herded in any direction that the Party desires at the moment – the naïve teenage girl who gets into the backseat with anyone who whispers sweet tax cuts into her ear as he fumbles with her bra strap. Eventually, this ends in a walk of shame.
As George Washington warned in his Farewell Address, “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”
Many professing conservatives feel helpless and plan to vote for Rauner. Some are party Republicans but most are desperate and willing to fall on their swords, thinking that the primary has settled it and we must vote for the guy with the “R” on his jersey.
But if “the primary settles it” in every election, we would have remained Loyalists and never fought for Independence, Ronald Reagan and Bill Bennett would never have left the Democrat Party, and the Republican Party would never have been born.
So why did Bruce Rauner run as a Republican and not a Democrat? There is a simple answer and once you understand, it’s both enlightening and insulting. You see, Bruce Rauner is the perfect Democrat. You might even say, he’s Old School. Rauner tows the line as a social degenerate but he believes in capitalism and school reform, so why not run as a Democrat and primary the weakest governor in the country?
Here’s why: Bruce Rauner has challenges whether he runs as a Democrat or a Republican. As a Republican, the obvious challenge is that he is in complete contradiction to major swaths of the Republican Platform and is offensive to the so-called “social conservatives,” because he is radical on abortion, in favor of homosexualism, and cozy with gun control and even amnesty. But on the Democrat side, he believes in prosperity, the free market, and education reform, so he’s a challenge to the Marxist status quo and the teacher’s unions.
Here’s where it gets interesting: at some point, Bruce, his staunchly liberal wife, and his handlers sat down and pondered where they would have the best chance of success – in a primary against the worst governor in the country or opposing that governor in a general election? In other words, which challenge would be easier to overcome: the strength of the Left in the Democrat Party or the strength of conservatives in the Republican?
He chose the Republican Party because he thought it would be easier to buy-off, set aside, and defeat the conservatives in the Illinois GOP than it would be the Marxists among the Democrats. Bruce Rauner believes that the Godless Left has more integrity to their cause than Catholics, Evangelicals, Tea-Party Patriots, and/or “social conservatives.”
This coming Tuesday we’ll find out if he was right.
In Illinois, Republican pretenders are working feverishly to fundamentally transform the party back into the Whigs.
As for me and my house . . .
