40 Democrat Senators Want to ‘Repeal the First Amendment!’ (VIDEO)

Speaking at a Family Research Council event last Thursday, Senator Ted Cruz informed the attendees that extreme leftist Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), 39 other Democrats and one socialist-leaning Independent in the Democrat-controlled legislative body are engaging in a foolhardy attempt to “repeal the First Amendment.” Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM) is the original sponsor of Senate Joint Resolution 19, which proposes to suspend key portions of the Bill of Rights. The liberal wackos apparently have the horrendous hubris to think that they can “improve” on the historic handiwork of “James Madison,” as the Wall Street Journal noted. The Journal reported:

‘The Supreme Court is trying to take this country back to the days of the robber barons, allowing dark money to flood our elections,’ Mr. Schumer said. The Senate will vote this year on the amendment to ‘once and for all allow Congress to make laws to regulate our system, without the risk of them being eviscerated by a conservative Supreme Court.’

I’m not making this up,” Cruz told the shocked gathering. “Senator Chuck Schumer has announced the Senate Democrats are scheduling a vote on a constitutional amendment to give Congress the plenary power, the unlimited authority, to regulate political speech.”

Cruz continued his explanation of the anti-free speech measure:

Because elected officials have decided they don’t like it when the citizenry has the temerity to criticize what they’ve done. They don’t like it when pastors in their community stand up and speak the truth. And it makes their lives inconvenient when they’re not standing for principle and actually that’s pointed out back home.

And the Wall Street Journal confirms this alarming development:

A standard liberal talking point about the Tea Party is that its constitutional designs are ‘extremist.’ But you will search in vain for any Tea Party proposal that is anywhere close to as radical as the current drive by mainstream Democrats to rewrite the Bill of Rights.

The Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision allowing unions and corporations to donate to independent political groups has driven liberals to such fits that they now want to amend the First Amendment. At a Senate Rules Committee meeting last week, New York Democrat Chuck Schumer announced a proposal to amend the Constitution to empower government to regulate political speech.

Cruz also noted that the language of the amendment would specifically protect radical media juggernauts like the New York Times, but would unbelievably enable Congress to “muzzle” the religious and free speech protections of every average American citizen by preventing them from “saying things that government finds inconvenient.”

This just goes to show you that no one should ever trust a Liberal further than they can throw them — if that far. This egregious, and guaranteed-to-fail effort must be made known to every liberty-loving American, especially before the mid-term elections roll around in November.

If there’s anything that needs amending, it’s the composition of the U.S. Senate. Schumer, Reid, Franken, Feinstein, Durbin, Boxer and the whole crazy cast of Leftist loony tune characters need to be removed from office or returned to minority status where they can do a lot less damage to the country.
