US Opens First Permanent Military Base in Israel

Faith and Freedom with Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver and Holly Meade, and BarbWire.com Founder Matt Barber… An 11-minute weekday radio program discussing hot topics in the area of religious liberty, the sanctity of human life and the family.

The U.S. opens its first permanent in Israel. This is significant and historic. We’re going to  be talking about it and the reasons why on Faith and Freedom. I’m Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. Joining me is Matt Barber, the Founder BarbWire.com, and Holly Meade, Director of Communications for Liberty Counsel.

Mat Staver: Well, Israel and U.S. officials recently inaugurated the first permanent American military base in Israel which will house dozens of U.S. troops and a missile defense system. This is incredible, Matt, because it’s incredible for both countries. Israel is an ally of the United States, loves the United States, supports the United States.

But Israel has always known that it needs to have its own independence. It needs to have its own military readiness. The U.S., we know, they know, has not always stood by in lock step with Israel. Whether it’s the 1948 war, or the 1973 war. We eventually came to the right position…

Col. Liran Cohen, head of the IDF’s air defense school, left, and Col. David Shank, of the US 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command, cut the ribbon to open the first American military base in Israel, inside the Mashabim Air Base, on September 18, 2017. (Israel Defense Forces)
