America Our Earthly Home: A New Anthem For America

avatar

The following is a song that I began to write over a year ago during the Presidential primaries.
I took solace in the fact that we, as Christians, are but strangers in a strange land here on earth.
We are not of this world, we are a peculiar people and eternal citizens of heaven.
How blessed we are to have America, despite all of it’s flaws as our temporary, earthly home.

The Carter Family wrote the following in the classic oldie “I Can’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore”

Oh, Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home, oh, Lord, what would I do
Angels beckon me to heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

Those words rang true in my spirit as I penned this “New Anthem” outlining both America’s sinful faults, and our eternal hope, which is salvation through the blood of Christ alone.

America Our Earthly Home
A New Anthem for America
By: Chris Mills

America our earthly home, God shed your grace on us
The Patriot’s dreams are lost it seems, God shed your grace on us
Founder’s intent now liberally bent, God shed your grace on us

America our earthly home, God shed your grace on us
The unborn slain, their blood exclaims, God shed your grace on us
Mohamed praised and Christ disdained, God shed your grace on us

America our earthly home, God shed your grace on us
Mammon’s trust now canker and rust, God shed your grace on us
Pride in strange lusts, crushed Sodom to dust, God shed your grace on us

From sea to shining sea, Lord drive us to our knees
To beg of thee just one more chance-
To rise and serve thee, to rise and praise thee, to rise and magnify our God

America our earthly home, God shed your grace on us
Christ’s blood alone for sin atones, God shed your grace on us
By the Holy Ghost lest man should boast, God shed your grace on us

America our earthly home, God shed your grace on us
Peculiar people gather ‘neath yon steeple, God shed your grace on us
Eastern sky Gabriel’s trumpet cry, God shed your grace on us

America our earthly home, God shed your grace on us
America our earthly home, God shed your grace on us
May God Shed His Grace On Us

Stand for the flag America, and kneel before the cross.
