Black Voters Getting Tired of Republicans AND Democrats
In the last two Presidential elections, America’s African-Americans have voted overwhelmingly (some 90%) for the Democrat Party and President Barack Obama. Over that same period of time, life in America has become far more difficult for African-Americans as well.
Their unemployment numbers are way up, poverty has drastically increased, and their community’s standard of living has seen a steep decline. We conservatives believe that there is a direct correlation between liberal Democrat policies and the difficulties currently facing the African-American community. Yet, the vast majority of African-Americans still support those same destructive Democrat policies.
Tavis Smiley argues that African-Americans support Democrats because the Republican Party has ignored them and chosen to run “segregated campaigns” that don’t appeal to all Americans.
“Well, I am tired of black voters being taken for granted by one party and ignored by the other party so it was a clarion call to Democrats to not do that this time around. We all know the conventional wisdom left the building before the train ever left the station. So anything could happen this time around. I just don’t want Democrats to take the black vote for granted…
The Clintons have a long-term relationship with the African-American community there’s the sense that the black political establishment rallying around her suggests that there’s going to be just lockstep voter support for her candidacy and I think that with Barack Obama clearly not being on the ballot this time, you can’t count on the high percentage of turnout with African-American voters you saw in that election. That’s just common sense so you have to work harder for that African-American vote and I’m glad Bernie is pushing Hillary to be more progressive.”
Businessman, conservative leader and former presidential candidate Herman Cain disagrees with Smiley instead says that African-Americans have been “conned” by the Democrat Party.
“Absolutely yes, Donald Trump can peel off some black voters… If Trump starts to put his platform and his ideas that help everybody. The reason that there is this so-called divide between the perception of black people and women and non-minorities is because that is all they have been fed in terms of some of the spoon-fed soundbites.”
“When it’s one-on-one and he sticks to his top three priorities –And dispels was Tavis is saying about not running a campaign for all of America, all of America benefits from replacing the tax code, enforcing the immigration laws, repealing and replacing Obamacare… That’s not the message that is coming through.”
Whatever the case is here, the basic truth that we should see is that the GOP has done a poor job of explaining why our policies would be better for the African-American community than the failed policies of Democrats has been. We’ve not spent the time, energy, or resources that we should in our black communities, and our nation is suffering because of it.
