Ted Cruz; Senate Accomplishments and Then Some

avatar

Along with spreading lies about mistresses, engaging in character assassination, name-calling, attacking Ted Cruz’s wife, and conspiracy tinfoil hat rhetoric about Ted Cruz’s father, Donald Trump supporters claim that Ted Cruz has not accomplished anything in the Senate. Nothing could be further from the truth…

Ted Cruz Senate Accomplishments:

1. https://youtu.be/_py3vTsTo_U

2. S.2195 – A bill to deny admission to the United States to any representative to the United Nations who has been found to have been engaged in espionage activities or a terrorist activity against the United States and poses a threat to United States national security interests.

3. Stopped Amnesty: Blocked the Gang of Eight using “poison pill” amendments…

So if you go back in time, it was Ted Cruz, not Trump, who first pushed a border fence not just with rhetoric, but with legislation, and it was Trump who started talking about the need for a border fence after Cruz started pushing for it. Because up to then, Trump was a pro-amnesty liberal democrat.

4. Ted has worked hard to pass legislation to help and improve our military in general, but as far as veterans…

S.249 – Operation United Assistance Tax Exclusion Act of 2015

Ted Cruz wrote and introduced this legislation himself…

S.1117 – Ensuring Veteran Safety Through Accountability Act of 2015

Ted Cruz is a co-sponsor of this bill…

S. 207 – Veterans Access to Community Care Act of 2015

5. Ted did not shut down the governnment, Obama did. Ted wrote a one page bill to fund everything except obamacare, and Obama shut it down, to get his Obamacare, which is costing most of Americans higher premiums. Besides, the government never shuts down, only 15 percent of it which is useless, does.

6. Here is a piece of legislation that works to prevent sexual abuse in the military that Ted was part of with a handful of Democrats…

7. Unlike Obama, Cruz didn’t seat in the U.S. Senate and vote “present.” He has sponsored 97 bills. Here are a few crucial pieces of legislation sponsored by Cruz:

– ObamaCare Repeal Act
– Prohibit use of drones from killing citizens of the United States within the United States
– Disarm Criminals and Protect Communities Act
– Firearm Straw Purchasing and Trafficking Prevention Act
– Defund Obamacare Act of 2013
– A bill to amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to permit States to require proof of citizenship for registration to vote in elections for Federal office
– A bill to designate the United States courthouse located at 101 East Pecan Street in Sherman, Texas, as the Paul Brown United States Courthouse
– A bill to require the Secretary of State to offer rewards of up to $5,000,000 for information regarding the attacks on the United States diplomatic mission at Benghazi, Libya that began on September 11, 2012
– State Marriage Defense Act of 2014
– A bill to amend title 18, United States Code, to prohibit the intentional discrimination of a person or organization by an employee of the Internal Revenue Service
– A bill to prohibit the Department of the Treasury from assigning tax statuses to organizations based on their political beliefs and activities
– American Energy Renaissance Act of 2014
– A bill to deny admission to the United States to any representative to the United Nations who has been found to have been engaged in espionage activities or a terrorist activity against the United States and poses a threat to United States national security interests
– SuperPAC Elimination Act of 2014
– Free All Speech Act of 2014
– Guantanamo Bay Detainee Transfer Suspension Act of 2014
– A bill to require the Secretary of State to offer rewards totaling up to $5,000,000 for information on the kidnapping and murder of Naftali Fraenkel, a dual United States-Israeli citizen, that began on June 12, 2014
– A bill to prevent the expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program unlawfully created by Executive memorandum on August 15, 2012
– Sanction Iran, Safeguard America Act of 2014
– Expatriate Terrorists Act
– Operation United Assistance Tax Exclusion Act of 2014

8. Co-sponsored and passed the USA Freedom Act to enable the intelligence community to find and prosecute and kill the terrorists, while protecting ordinary citizens’ privacy rights. Under the USA Freedom Act, investigators have more tools to target suspected terrorists, to access their phone records, to track down with whom they’ve communicated. Under the old and initial Patriot Act bulk data program, all of us were presumed guilty at the outset, and yet the universe of phone records that could be searched was materially smaller than the universe that can now be searched.

9. Played a key role in blocking Dianne Fienstein’s gun-control legislation, thus preserving our Second Amendment rights…

http://www.businessinsider.com/dianne-feinstein-ted-cruz-gun-control-assault-weapons-ban-2013-3

10. Ted Cruz was the only one who called out the Obama administration quickly canceling its flight ban to Israel after Cruz publicly asked if the ban was an economic boycott on Israel for defending itself against Hamas missile attacks. Yep, another fight Ted Cruz led.

http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2014/07/25/cruz-slams-obamas-ban-of-flights-to-israel/

So there you have it, evidence that Ted Cruz has achieve many accomplishments just within his short time as Senator. But even if he didn’t, it is relevant to point out that the premise of this “show 10 accomplishments” of Senate accomplishments is based on a false premise. It’s about what they fight for and whether or not they keep their promises to the voters. For example, Ted Cruz was/is the biggest proponent and sponsor of Kate’s Law, which would increase penalties for undocumented immigrants who reenter the country after being deported. Under the legislation, undocumented immigrants could face additional prison time if they reenter the country, including a minimum five-year sentence if they were previously convicted of an aggravated felony or of illegally reentering the country twice. The fact that the Democratic party doesn’t want to spend the money to lock up murderers, and instead, apparently believe it’s cheaper to lose our sons and daughters by not signing the legislation is presumed to be on Ted Cruz as a “lack of accomplishment” is being disingenuous.

http://conservativeintel.com/2015/11/05/watch-harry-reid-blocks-ted-cruz-from-introducing-kates-law/

Here are some of Ted Cruz’s accomplishments before he was Senator, including as Solicitor General. Ted Cruz fought and won cases in the Supreme Court for the freedoms and liberties of our veteran, the American people, and our nation’s sovereignty.

While in the FTC, Ted Cruz fought and won for the free market…

Ted Cruz even created more jobs than Trump…

This takes some minor research and some easy to conclude reasoning. Ted Cruz has in effect created somewhere between 150,000 to 200,000 jobs by just his efforts in one FTC push. Likely he is responsible for more than 1 million jobs.

First we need to look at this website: FTC Website

https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2002/09/ftc-releases-agenda-public-workshop-possible-anticompetitive

You will see on the website that in 2002 they estimated the changes that Ted Cruz championed could save 15 billion a year. These changes included ending government monopolies, regulations preventing online sales, and in stopping anti-competitive behaviors in some industries. Companies that were positively affected (some not yet created) by this action include Amazon, Uber, Tesla, and Ebay.

Ted Cruz was not sitting back quietly, he stormed in against these regulations restricting growth, in fact here is some testimony (near the end) where he shows his skills and determination.

http://www.fed-soc.org/publications/detail/government-friend-or-foe-of-e-commerce-transcript

Donald Trump has created 34,000 jobs according to web sources. If this is correct then it is likely that at minimum Ted Cruz has created 5 jobs to every 1 that Trump has created, and in all probability Ted has created 30 jobs to every 1 that Trump created.

In fact, if we examine online wine sales (1.5% of the total of wine sold in the United States) we find $544,500,000 in wine sales were made online in 2014. That would be approximately $10 per a bottle for about 5,440 new jobs in just that industry alone.

Tesla still faces issues with protected markets. In some States you can only sell cars through existing dealers. If Ted Cruz was in the FTC right now I can see that ending real fast. However Tesla in many States is selling cars online exclusively. In 2014 Tesla earned approximately 1 billion dollars. If they had to sell through car dealers everywhere they would see reduced profits for needing to have vehicles actually located (and sitting) at each dealer. If only 200 million in gross profits was saved this way then Ted Cruz is responsible for about 2,000 jobs worth of savings there as well. Some say that money saved is just redirected, and that no new jobs are ever created. If this was true then why did we redirect cash from Horses and Buggies?

Uber is growing by leaps and bounds. So is Lyft and other taxi alternatives. If Ted Cruz had not made it so that restrictions on internet alternatives could not be squashed (forgive the double negative) then we would see cities, counties, and States banning the apps entirely. Uber alone likely earned 2 billion in revenue in 2015. That would certainly mean more jobs. Yes, Taxi companies are taking it hard, but when medallions were selling for $1,000,000 in NYC for a limited chance to drive a taxi.. there is a government monopoly created shortage of workers. Now we have a lot more jobs existing than there was before. Yes, there are fuel costs, but if we calculate some of the downstream jobs (oil refineries, oil drilling, etc) we can say that there is an easy 20,000 more drivers on the road today than there was before, all due to Ted Cruz. Oh, that’s just Uber by the way. Add others and we can pass 50,000 easily. How does Trump compare to that? He does not. Uber is just one of many companies benefitting from decisions Ted Cruz made as far back as 2000.

As one can see, with just three small examples we have more than 57,000 jobs created as a direct result of policies that Ted Cruz initiated while in the FTC. But his efforts extend well beyond this small list. One of the major issues was online auctions. Many auction companies were fighting to prevent online auctions from ever existing. Ebay had a GROSS REVENUE of 12 billion US Dollars. If I use my standard formulation of $100,000 per a job (yes a bit high) this is 120,000 jobs that probably exist today thanks to Ted Cruz.

Down Stream jobs however are created for all of these jobs.
This is known as an “indirect jobs multiplier effect.”

http://www.contentfirst.com/multiplier.shtml

Every sort of job makes revenue after all, and all revenue is spent somehow (Even billionaires spend money to make money after all!). Therefore even if just one other job is created on average per a job Ted Cruz directly helped influence into creation… Our numbers just became 344,000 new jobs from Ted Cruz, both directly and indirectly. And that is just for the examples shown, and for a cost per new job of $100,000 annually (a bit high for the actual average cost). As shown, Ted Cruz has done more to influence job creation with a single position he held under the FTC than Trump has ever created.

“While at the FTC, Cruz opposed competition-distorting governmental preferences in a host of other professions, ranging from attorneys and funeral directors to opticians and mortgage brokers — experience that could come in handy with the U.S. falling from 6th to 11th in a recent ranking of the world’s freest economies.”

The GOP establishment and the left argue that Ted Cruz is unelectable, hated, and/or polarizing. This argument is a straw man and it’s based just a flat out lie. The evidence doesn’t bare this out at all.

The following addresses what their more specific claims are and why those claims are just flat out wrong…

Ted Cruz will work with others if it’s a principled goal that has the best interests (safety and liberty) of American people in mind.

“We need someone who knows the ropes, who’s not the establishment, but who doesn’t need on-the-job training.” – Iowa voter Marilu Erdahl

The case for Cruz is straightforward: Ted combines the visceral evangelical appeal of Carson, the sincere and genuine outsider that people are crediting Trump for, the discipline of Rubio, a dash of Rand Paul’s libertarianism, and the fundraising and organizing game of Obama. It’s tough combination to ignore.”

Also, keep in mind, moderate republican voters are tired of not feeling safe in their country as a result of a constantly weak and chaotic foreign policy that Democrats have always embraced, but over and above that, the 60 million plus that stayed home the last 2 election cycles, because the GOP decided to run a Democrat-lite both times, will NOT be staying home this time if Ted Cruz wins the nomination. Ted Cruz is the ONLY true outsider with an insider’s understanding of policy.

Ted Cruz has been wrongly criticized as somebody who has been too divisive to get things done, especially with others across the aisle. This is patently false…

“Moreover, and perhaps surprising to some, Cruz sought and secured a broad, bipartisan consensus for his agenda. Almost all of Cruz’s initiatives received unanimous support among both Republicans and Democrats.”
