Death Threats Called for Clerk Defending Freedom

Faith and Freedom with Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver and BarbWire’s Matt Barber… An 11-minute weekday radio program discussing hot topics in the area of religious liberty, the sanctity of human life and the family.

Rowan county clerk in Kentucky, Kim Davis, is facing intense pressure. Some people are calling for her to step down, many others are calling for her to stay strong and be encouraged.

Mat Staver: Matt, I was just reading the other day on Twitter, something you actually posted, there was a young woman who responded and said that if you can’t follow your employer, then you need to step down. Now the person, I’m sure, was very well meaning. But let’s flesh this out a little bit.

Kim Davis has been working in the clerk’s office for 27 years. This is an amazing woman of faith. She has been transformed by the blood of Jesus Christ and she is committed to her Lord and Savior. She was elected as clerk in 2014, the people put her in office. And when she ran for election throughout 2014, and throughout the previous nearly 30 years of work, marriage was something that happened within the county clerk’s office in terms of giving out marriage licenses.

But, throughout that time, in fact throughout Kentucky, indeed, the history of america, in fact, the history of the world, marriage has always been understood as one thing: the union of a man and a woman. Opposite sex, man and woman. Never was it ever thought of or envisioned to be between people of the same sex.

But all of that changed with people on the Supreme Court on June 26th. The job duties were changed, if you will, that now she is being told that she needs to issue a same-sex marriage license…

Matt Barber: How about the Chief Executive of the United States of America? He did the same thing with DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act. And Attorney General Eric Holder. They said “We will not defend the Defense of Marriage Act because we don’t believe it’s constitutional. It’s the law of the land, but we’re not going to do our duty and defend it because it violates our conscience.” Well, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

And here we now have the United States Supreme Court zooming to step in and move the goal post in a way that the four dissenting justices indicated very clearly, was completely not rooted in the United States Constitution among other things.
