Should Pastors Be Involved in Politics?
(1 min Audio Report – Freedom’s Call)
Next time people tell you that pastors should not be involved in public policy, remind them of John Witherspoon.
This Founding Father was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, ratified the U.S. Constitution, and served on over 100 committees in Congress AND he was a famous American minister.
In 1777 when Georgia had passed a constitution forbidding clergymen to sit in the legislature, John Witherspoon wrote in his sagacious and humorous manner, “Before any man among us was ordained a minister, was he not a citizen of the United States? Does this calling and profession render him stupid or ignorant?”
Encourage your pastor to be a John Witherspoon and secure religious freedom for the next generation.
