Get the State Out of Marriage
(1 min Audio Report – Faith2Action)
The Alabama Senate passed a bill by 22-3 to end state-issued marriage licenses and replace them with marriage “contracts.”
Bill sponsor Sen. Greg Albritton said, “…If you go back and look and try to find marriage licenses for your grandparents or great grandparents, you won’t find it. What you will find instead is where people have come in and recorded when a marriage has occurred.”
If this bill becomes law, it would render void the federal rulings that overturned the state amendment defining marriage and get the state government out of defining marriage altogether.
Michael Boldin of the Tenth Amendment Center. “My personal relationship should not be subject to government permission.”
