Politifact: Scott Walker Actually Did Buy A Sweater For $1
Scott Walker is just a regular guy, just like everyone else. He brings ham and cheese sandwiches to work for lunch, his father was a preacher and he wears a one dollar sweater his wife bought for him at Kohl’s.
The Wisconsin Governor made waves last month when he bragged to Republican activists in New Hampshire that he bought a sweater for a dollar, and some people just couldn’t get over it.
Well, it turns out it is possible that Walker got the sweater for a dollar, like he claimed. The fact-checking website, Politifact, set out to see if they could pay one dollar for the sweater Walker claimed he did. While they didn’t find the exact same sweater walker wore during the speech, they found plenty of similar ones for around $7.
While that is not the one dollar Walker said he paid for his sweater, it is easily conceivable that with coupons, like the “Kohl’s Cash” Walker said he used, a customer could get the sweater for a dollar out-of-pocket.
Walker mentioned the sweater in an effort to set himself apart from former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, leading up to their possible match-up in the 2016 Republican primary. Bush is seen by many as a political elite, with his wife causing a stir in February when she spent $40,000 on jewelry in a single day, and Walker wanted to stress that he comes from humble roots.
