An American Hero is in Iraq Fighting to Defend Christian Lives from ISIS

To me, with the Christians here, it would be an honor to give my life helping these people here.

– Brett Felton

Brett Felton is a real American hero. He is a 28-year-old Iraq war veteran from Michigan who also happens to be a Christian and is now helping to train fledgling Christian militias in an effort to fend off the ISIS threat. Brett is not in Iraq serving our nation, but serving the Christians of Iraq. Our government even reached out to him after he was able to sneak away from his “study abroad” program and into Iraq, asking Felton not to fight and to return home as soon as possible.

But Felton chose to stay and to fight, anyway.

For many of us watching the horrible events unfolding in Syria and Iraq, Felton is doing what we wish we could. Standing up to protect innocent lives from the evil and violent scourge that is Islamic terrorism. Of course, his family fears for his life. Of course, we too worry for our brother in Christ and our fellow citizen… but I for one cannot help but be proud to hear his good report.

Let us all follow in Brett Felton’s example, maybe not as a soldier on the field of battle, but in our own ways and with our own talents, let us stand up with our brothers and sisters in Iraq and Syria and anywhere that the Christian Church is persecuted and fight for our siblings in the faith! Take Brett Felton’s example and do what you can to end the threat faced by Assyrian Christians at the hands of ISIS…

Brett Felton:

To me, with the Christians here, it would be an honor to give my life helping these people here.

Lara Logan:

Imagine what it means to the Christians who have lost everything. To know that there are Christians who are willing to stand up. To know that they’re not just being wiped out without a fight.
