College Votes To Dump US Flag To Be More ‘Inclusive’

Students at the University of California, Irvine, have voted to remove the American flag from an “inclusive” space on campus after deeming it too offensive to remain, according to Campus Reform.

The move was approved by the Associated Students of University of California, Irvine (ASUCI), who endorsed a bill saying the flag endorses American superiority and “has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism.”

The bill also appears to warn about the dangers of too much free speech, saying that “freedom of speech, in a space that aims to be as inclusive as possible can be interpreted as hate speech.”

Therefore, ASUCI decided, the best solution is to simply ban all flags from the group’s main lobby, in order to ensure it is as “inclusive” as possible.

“Let it further be resolved that no flag, of any nation, may be hanged on the walls of the Associate Student main lobby space,” the bill says. While flags have been explicitly targeted, the bill says that going forward, anything deemed offensive must go.

“If a decorative item is in the Associate student lobby space and issues arise, the solution will be to remove the item if there is considerable request to do so.”
