Police Shoot Boy Because His Friend Had A Toy Gun

A Los Angeles police officer allegedly shot a 15-year-old boy over someone else’s toy gun Tuesday.

Police said Wednesday that an officer fired at a teen who was pointing a toy gun at someone. The shot missed and hit a different teen, putting him in the hospital, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Police say officers were conducting a follow-up investigation in the area when they came across a group of boys in an alley. One boy in the alley was allegedly pointing a gun at someone. Police, thinking that the fake gun was real, say they told the boy to put the gun down several times but he ignored them.

That’s when one officer fired on the boy but missed, hitting a different teen in the upper back.

The boy holding the toy gun was not hurt. The injured boy was released from the hospital to his mother.

No charges were filed, but the boy with the toy gun could be charged for brandishing the weapon in the presence of an officer, the International Business Times reports. The officers involved have been removed from the field until authorities complete their investigating into the incident.
