With ‘Republicans’ Like These, It Stinks to be Right
I’m right a lot. That’s not arrogance, but a simple statement of fact. It comes not from being a genius, but rather from being a life-long student of life, and from trying to be a good disciple of the ultimate source of Truth.
There are times, though, when being right is a real bummer–especially when you knew something bad was going to happen, and you’re proven right about it. And the greater the consequences of that “something bad,” the greater my sadness about being right about it.
The latest case in point is the fact that I was right that “Republicans” winning a majority in congress would do little to nothing to get our great nation off its course toward self-destruction.
I understand the desperation of many Republicans and conservatives to do anything to stop the radical Leftist agenda of Barack Obama and his fellow socialist Democrats. I’ve felt it, and I’ve even joined in the voting for the “lesser of two evils” in the past, in an attempt to at least put on the brakes (e.g. John McCain and Mitt Romney).
As a local founding member of the Tea Party movement back in 2009, it seemed there might be hope for our nation as there came a resurgence from the people to stand up for freedom; after all, neither the Democrat Party nor the Republican Party were doing anything to stop the onslaught of corrosive Leftist poison in our nation. We the people rose up and helped elect a lot of new people to congress, a number of which (e.g. Senator Tim Scott) are doing the job we elected them to do…and a number of which have turned out to be a bitter disappointment as they quickly contracted “Potomac Fever” or testicular atrophy.
What’s more, since the great Tea Party victories of 2010, we have seen the RINO liberals in the “Republican” party declare all-out open war on conservatives, even within the Republican Party. It has been made clear by the GOP leadership that people who actually believe in Republican principles–the principles upon which the United States was built–are not only not welcome in the GOP, but will not even be tolerated.
The contempt from the GOP establishment was too clear, and the “long game” stakes were too high for me to even support “the lesser of two evils” this time around. I had to do what I could to expose the duplicity and hypocrisy of these “Republican” liberals, in the hopes that the betrayers of our party’s principles might finally learn a valuable lesson at the hands of those they are supposed to represent. That’s what I did…and it was a lonely job.
Yet some conservatives were so desperate in 2014 that they allied themselves with the enemies of conservatism in order to install people with the label “Republican” in congress, in the hopes that if we could just elect enough of these gutless wonders to power, they might somehow find the anatomy within themselves to finally find the courage to stand up to the Leftist agenda.
While some conservative organizations kept their wits about them, many organizations like the Tea Party Express, National Right to Life, the Christian Coalition, the Family Research Council, and the South Dakota pro-family group Family Heritage Alliance whored out their credibility by shamelessly backing people who had proven they were enemies of the conservative agenda. They believed it when these fake conservatives talked the conservative talk (even though their records told a different story). They put their faith in the notion that these frauds might really be born-again conservatives who had finally seen the light (even though there was not a shred of repentance for their past liberal deeds). They hoped that pawning their integrity for the election would be worth it.
Now, day after day following the November 2014 election, the news has proven, sadly, that I was completely right: the “Republican” Party has no desire or intent to stop the Leftist agenda. Many in the “Republican” Party are too afraid of being called names by liberals to do the right thing. Still more are nothing but wolves in sheep’s clothing, liberals with an “R” after their name, who want the same thing that the Democrat Party wants.
The dust hasn’t even had time to settle after the election and we’ve already seen that the liberal GOP establishment has absolutely zero gratitude for what the American people gave them on Election Day, and that they have no intention whatsoever of standing in the way of the Leftist agenda.
Here in South Dakota, where we have a “Republican” supermajority legislature (somewhere in the 70-80 percent range), the “Republican” majority has just proposed what some are describing as the largest single tax increase in state history. Isn’t it great to have “Republicans” in charge?
Even newly-elected “Republicans” have wasted no time in jumping on the surrender bandwagon and capitulating to the Leftist Democrats on things like lawless amnesty for people who have invaded our country.
From RedState today:
News reports indicate that the House GOP plans to surrender to the President and avoid taking a stand against his unconstitutional executive amnesty. Even leftwing media outlets agree that the plan is a unilateral surrender. According to Politico, they will vote on a “symbolic” bill opposing the President’s executive action that the “Senate will likely ignore”, then pass a massive omnibus spending bill that stays silent on amnesty.
For crying out loud, even Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)11% supports it. We can now call this the Boehner-Reid Amnesty Authorization Act:
We have to face the truth: the GOP establishment lied to the American people. Some of us saw it coming a mile away (simple experience and being honest with ourselves made it clear), while others allowed themselves to be taken in. And now America is going to suffer even more for our negligence; instead of throwing all our energy into getting decent candidates elected, we settled for “the lesser of two evils” and believed liberals when they told us we couldn’t do any better.
Yeah, sometimes it really stinks being right.
