On the Nullification of the Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Law

Friday, a Ugandan court struck down the controversial Anti-Homosexuality Law on the grounds there wasn’t a legal quorum of legislators present at the time of passage.

Now that the Ugandan government has shown itself capable of self-governance, I’m waiting for calls of apology from media outlets around the world who for years have insinuated (or outright insisted) that the Ugandans were merely my puppets in a nefarious scheme to persecute homosexuals there. That lie is also, of course, the premise of the “Crimes Against Humanity” lawsuit filed against me here in U.S. Federal Court by Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) and their Marxist New York attorneys of the ironically named Center for Constitutional Rights.

The SMUG lawsuit claims that my preaching against homosexuality in Uganda overpowered the weak-minded African natives and turned them into rampaging bloodthirsty savages bent on “gay” genocide. Never mind that there has not been any actual violence there — except for the murder of SMUG leader David Kato by his “gay” lover. Never mind also that Kato’s murderer was convicted by this same Ugandan judiciary and is now serving a 30 year sentence. And never mind that in the paltry few other instances listed in the SMUG lawsuit where alleged wrongs were committed against homosexuals – instances which I condemned and had nothing to do with – the same Ugandan courts have held the wrongdoers responsible – which decisions I applauded.

The evolutionist hero Charles Darwin taught that Blacks were an intermediary step in the evolutionary progression of apes into human beings, writing:

At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races… The break [between humans and non-humans] will then be rendered wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as at present between the negro or Australian [aboriginal] and the gorilla. Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, p. 156.

Darwin’s intellectual descendants dominate Western civilization today, including the so-called mainstream media. Individual politicians and journalists may not personally express such blatantly offensive beliefs, but their Neo-Colonial attitude toward the Africans in the matter of African countries legislating their own moral values is grossly paternalistic at best — and inescapably implicitly racist.

In contrast, I, and my fellow Christians who have served as missionaries to Africa for generations have always treated the Africans as equals, created in the image of God just as we are. Every Christian who has ever visited Uganda knows that the typical Ugandans are a warm and lovely people: intelligent, caring and capable. Though they are very poor, their culture (outside of some areas which still embrace paganism) is highly civilized and its leaders are well educated and quite competent.

The maliciously deceitful attempt by the global “gay” movement and its media allies to paint Uganda as a pariah state filled with hateful bigots (as in the propaganda film “God Loves Uganda”), is simply a disgusting modern example of the same “blood libel” used against the Jews by the Nazis.

I am not unhappy that the Ugandan law as written has been nullified. I have always said it was too harsh and did not emphasize prevention and therapy for homosexual disorder. The law’s enactment and quick repeal conclusively demonstrate that Ugandans can think for themselves, are capable of self-governance, and do not need “enlightened” Marxists and homosexual militants from the West to shape their public policy and uphold the rule of law.

Thankfully, homosexual conduct is still a crime in Uganda. But, invariably, activist interlopers in this country will deem this court case, based solely on a technicality, as is proper, as a repudiation of the existing laws criminalizing the expression of this sexual perversion. The legislators will soon learn how critical it is to pass anew a firm penalty law against the most activist homosexuals, whose strings are being controlled from the degenerate West.

    • Michael Hampton

I pity your family since this issue appears to consume your every waking moment. Punishing people for something that you think is a sin every day is not your calling, according to the Bible that you are hitting people with. You are not to be the judge and executioner for God. God does that on his own. You are free to live your life. Love your family. Spend some time with children. Pet an animal. Make love to your spouse. But please. Stop pretending that you are on some holy mission to dispense God’s justice. You are not.

      • Opposition Research

There are many Bible passages that address such malicious folk, but this one is particularly fitting:

2 Timothy 3:1-5 — “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, ,b>without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”

        Emphasis mine.

That last part is worth breaking down in its own right:

having a form of godliness (– Talking the language of God and faith) but denying its power. ( — Not trusting in God or His plan, but instead burning with the impatient urge to use the power of government to accomplish what God is refusing to do — rain brutality and judgment on those whom they so intensely think God should smite.)

God isn’t striking down the people whom that want to see struck down, so they try to dethrone God and take Divine matters into their own hands.

I always think I am used to the irony coming out of the mouths of sexual perverts, and then they always surprise me.

          • Opposition Research

I recommend this article from Christianity Today:

Why Words Matter by John Woodbridge.

      • thisoldspouse

Never mind my family. Why is it you sexual reprobates are always consumed with other people’s children? Maybe you really ARE all pedophiles under cover.

  • The Skeptical Chymist

So it is paternalistic and racist to promote a “neo-Colonial” attitude toward the Africans in the matter of Africans legislating their own moral values?? How ironic that Mr. Lively should make such a statement! More than anyone else in the West, he and his Christian missionary predecessors have sought to impose their religious and moral values on Africans, often to the benefit of the colonial government.

Would Mr. Lively also consider it paternalistic and racist to promote a “Neo-Colonial” religious message to Arabs? I think he would applaud the superior morals of the Christian faith over those of Islam.

Mr. Lively’s condemnation of “neo-Colonial” attitudes seems very selective indeed, and he really should try to look in the mirror a bit more often, and more deeply.

    • thisoldspouse

Scott lively is a well-known pro-family activist here in this country, and as such, his advice was sought by Ugandans when they were considering the problem of activist homosexuality in their country.

Seeking out experts on subjects at hand is the civilized thing to do.

      • Halou

And what did they do with his “expert” advice? Accept it as if it were gospel truth and put it to law, or reject him and his advice as not quite as expert as he makes out to be?

        • thisoldspouse

If you were half-way literate, you would know that the Ugandans DID NOT take Lively’s advice, which was to allow for sentences aimed at prevention and therapy for homosexuals. They went to an extreme that Lively opposed. Even so, the final law limited the extreme sentence, life in prison, not death, to habitual repeat offenders, those who involved children (I would hope that even you oppose pederasty) and those who willfully risk others with HIV infection – all reasonable remedies.

          • Halou

Mr Lively’s alleged ‘opposition’ to the metaphorical nuclear bomb that he himself dropped on gay rights in 2009 had to be strenuously extracted.

After much umm-ing and ah-ing he finally admitted in an interview with Mariana van Zeller that the law (with it’s original 2009 death penalty provisions for homosexual sex, related non-sexual offences, and extra-territorial jurisdiction above the laws of and within foreign countries) was the “lesser of two evils”, if you consider the existence of gay people in Uganda an evil.

          • thisoldspouse

“Gay” is not an existence, but a behavior. Let’s establish that reality from the start. We can’t transact in fantasies.

          • ryan

“Straight” is non a state of being (I’m assuming English is not your first language; I won’t hold that against you; enjoy the free English lesson) but a behavior – I could make the same argument. I could say that I’m not straight; I simply engage in straight behavior. What is your point? I daresay you’re not the brightest bulb in the box.

          • Michael Hampton

            They never are.

          • Michael Hampton

Um…you are the one living in a fantasy if you won’t even admit that gay people exist.

          • thisoldspouse

People are not “gay” in any way that is relevant except for their behavior, which, for eons, has been either illegal or marginalized throughout history, for good reason.

          • Azima Khan

Sorry but changing definitions to suit your argument is not good reasoning. Being gay is having exclusively same sex attractions. Whether someone is sexually active or not is irrelevant. You wouldn’t say someone is not straight because they’re currently single.

          • Michael Hampton

Um…actually, Lively wrote the law for them. They merely published it.

          • thisoldspouse

And that, sir, is a blatant lie.

Maybe you should be tried for libel?

      • Michael Hampton

Lively is not a specialist. He is a bigot who will be found guilty of crimes against humanity very shortly.

Of course, someone like you would support the murder of gay people for simply existing.

        • RCQ_92130

          Lively is a bigot?

I wonder if hate consumed hater have always tried to label others as hate filled haters, or if that started as recently as the mid-20th century in a certain European country.

          • Halou

Jews had their holy books burned in the streets and were being given the yellow star, rounded into ghettos, expelled from the nations, beaten and killed for many centuries before 1930.

Most, if not all of the abuse being suffered by the Jews living in “Judeo-Christian” Europe.
The religiously diverse Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the relatively tolerant Ottoman Empire being popular destinations for Jewish asylum seekers.

    • Halou

You’re forgetting. Evangelical Christians are a special, superior breed of human being, above the rest. They can act above the rules and regulations that bind the rest of humanity to good order.

  • Halou

Have you or your ‘god’s gift’ friends booked another set of return flights yet?

You’ve got to drop another nuclear bomb on gay rights and convince them all over again that gays are, by their nature, Idi Amin clones that are inclined to genocide just as they did in Rwanda and Nazi Germany, and must all be eliminated by similar means so as to protect Ugandan kids.

No point denying it, it’s all been caught on film.

  • ryan

You are complicit in crimes against humanity and you should own up to what you did. The Bible has a thing or two to say about bearing false witness and that the Lord hates a lying tongue. You have a lying tongue. You went to Africa and lied, lied about homosexuals, lied about the realities of their lives (newsflash: it’s just like heteros’ lives with a single innocuous difference that you seem oddly focussed on). You convinced a superstitious group of people that gays were coming for their children and acted shocked! shocked and appalled! when they believed what you told them.

You are akin to a preacher who tells his congregation that abortion doctors are “killing babies” and then are shocked! appalled! when they actually kill a doctor. “I had nothing to do with that,” the pastor screams. Yes, you had everything to do with it. You even describe yourself as the “Father of the Pro-family Ugandan Movement”. They took your lead and you know it.

    • thisoldspouse

So, are you condemning all biblical Christians as “criminals against humanity” by your warped standard?

Just admit it, and let your fascism flow freely.

      • ryan

Perhaps you did not read my comment. I condemned Scott Lively and any other participant in this draconian, insane law. If you were a part of it, you as well were a criminal against humanity. There are many liberal and moderate Christians who were against the law. They obviously are not criminals.

Are you even paying attention to what I’m saying, and are you familiar with the psychology term “projection”?

Oddly you accuse me of being a fascist when the only fascists are the ones who helped enact this law. Google Dictionary defines fascism as “extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practice.” That is the very definion of this law. In turn, I am speaking out against this law and the people who enacted it, yet I am a fascist. How does this work?

        • Michael Hampton

Remember, when they are caught in a lie or show via proof that their position on an issue is completely wrong, they have to accuse you of what you accuse them of.

      • CrissCross

Christianity being abused in the persecution, harassment and violent subjugation of a group of people is an evil.
If true Christians do nothing to halt the abuse of their faith by & for evil, then they are standing by & doing nothing as evil masquerades under the banner of Christ.
Doing nothing to halt the charlatan counterfeit Christians, is a clear act of support.

Unchecked evils perpetrated under the banner of Christ are a cancerous blight on the entirety of the fabric of Christianity. If Christians accept or accommodate it, then the blight has permeated the entirety of the faith. If evil has been permitted to infiltrate Christianity, then no Christian and no part of Christianity can be trusted.
The cancer must be excised, before it destroys the host.

  • tomd

This is arguably the most offensive article I’ve read on this site.

To demand an apology because this legal result somehow wipes out Lively’s efforts to promote and encourage persecution of gay people in Uganda and elsewhere is ludicrous. There are reports from inside Uganda that attacks on gays have increased by as much as 10 times since the bill was passed. But like Pilate, Lively washes his hands of any involvement.

And then Lively calls his opponents racist and colonialist, ignoring the fact that he’s the white American who spent 5 *hours* lying to the Ugandan parliament about homosexuality. The best he can do is trot out Darwin, whose theory has shown that what we call ‘race’ is essentially nonexistent. (Note that while Darwin was developing his theories, Lively’s brand of Christian was fighting for the right to *own* black people.

    • Azima Khan

Lively is an example of true evil. A pathetic, self-indulgent egomaniac who validates hi inflated self image by manipulating others with fearmongering and lies.

  • Michael Hampton

Aww. All that work that Matt Barber and Scott Lively and Peter LaBarbera did in writing that law for them making it punishable by death to be gay in that country is now wasted. How sad for them. All that money that bigots gave them to do so was wasted instead of being used to help people. Don’t you feel foolish?

    • RCQ_92130

Nah. You see, the problem was simply the lack of a quorum when the Law was passed. Now – what do you suppose is the remedy for that?

  • jlvnv

The logical route would be to go into a fairly long explanation of how and why Scott Lively and his colleague Mat Barber are among the most vile hypocrites. Their writings and actions speak for themselves. Those who would rush to defend them need only review their numerous video lessons and sermons available across the web in which they directly do what Lively states they didn’t do. Rage and hate are the sole components of the “authority” they claim to have as (cough, cough cough) christians and deliverers of the “truth about homosexuality”.

    • Halou

The only “truth about homosexuality” here is the unending fascination Mr Lively and Mr Barber have towards it.

      • Opposition Research

And, next article over, there’s an article titled “A government feared and distrusted.”

A government that ought to be greatly feared and distrusted is a government made up of individuals like these.

      • jlvnv

One word I would change in your response: fascination replaced by obsession.

      • RCQ_92130

MANY of us are wide-open-eyes toward the 2% that are homosexual, given the vast destruction this small, marginal group has wrought on our society in the last 6 years. There is little in the way of attentiveness and wariness toward gay activism that could objectively be termed as “overboard”.

        • Halou

The same was said 80 years ago, when an equally small minority (1.7% at the time) was blamed for bringing destruction on societies around the world in the wake of the 1914-1918 war which they were accused of causing, the centenary of it’s beginning started being commemorated at the weekend.

    • RCQ_92130

It is hardly a surprise to anyone that boundless hate and lie forms the cornerstone of the gay community – at least, the cornerstone among gay activists. That you are filled with hate, deceit and a “KKK mentality” speaks not a whit about those you seek to demolecularize, but volumes about you. But the most fascinating is your “cough, cough, cough” little girl attitude toward Christians (it has a capital “C”, as in Christ). Now, not being a very good Christian myself, i have not even a smidgen of concern for your everlasting well-being, and actually enjoy when you show all of us the freight train you have volunteered for. It’s good for a bit of comic relief. But i pity your parents – mom especially, since she labored 9 months to bring into the world a precious child, only to be ‘rewarded’ with the likes of you. And THAT, my poor, self-deceptive, Hell-bent volunteer for the end to which you are committed, IS, as you termed it, “THE TRUTH ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY”.

      • jlvnv

Thanks. I thought the “cough, cough, cough” was a nice touch. But, I never thought it was point of fascination.

Oh, as long as we’re going to be talking as if we are the grammar police, you may want to check the use of the pronoun “i.” In most writing we use it as “I.” You, of course, may be allowed points for creativity if in fact you are demonstrating humility by using lower case. Or you may be emulating the great poet e. e. cummings.

…hate, deceit, KKK mentality…. Nice coming from an imperfect christian such as you. (I prefer lower case to make a point. You got it. I’m glad you picked up on it. There is hope for you.)

Anyway, I prefer to stick to the article instead of making personal attacks on respondents. But, hey, we all have to let it out sometimes. Glad to see that you are not afraid to go off topic and make personal attacks. It sort of helps to reinforce why I choose to use the lower case “c” on christian.

        • RCQ_92130

          >>”Anyway, I prefer to stick to the article…”

Oh puleeze. You attacked, venting the venom that appears to be what passes for your soul. There was scant little in anything you wrote that ‘stuck to the article’. And, since you appear to relish personal attack, “i responded in kind.

ps: though you may find solace in your focus on typographical errors (what seems to pass in the mind that is yours as a grammatical mistake), that ‘solace’ is imaginary. You remain committed to the life that is yours, and remain destined to the everlasting that you have earned. Best wishes and cheers.

pps; I always enjoy offering what I hope to be helpful and constructive suggestions. As such, I think you might enjoy trying honesty … just for a change of pace. Who knows …..

          • jlvnv

I always enjoy offering what I hope to be helpful and constructive suggestions. As such, I think you might enjoy trying honesty … just for a change of pace.

Thanks for having the best sense of humor I’ve seen today. This exchange will be a great discussion starter at the water cooler tomorrow. It’s our “You won’t believe it Tuesday.”

  • Azima Khan

When you’re literally doing the exact same thing the Nazis were doing, literally continuing the Nazi legacy of anti lgbt cleansing, there’s nothing more ironic you could do then accuse us of being the Nazis. A finer example of projection I cannot fathom. Lively and Hitler would be good friends.

  • Daniel Martinovich

These comments, urggg. 30 million aids deaths in Sub Sahara Africa give or take a few million. It’s a &^%#$%^& holocaust! !7% of all deaths in Uganda as we speak due to aids. 4 million multigenerational aids orphans in Uganda. ALL DUE TO ABBERANT SEXUAL PRACTISES, of which homosexuality is or was at the core of. Or to put that statement another way. Male homosexuality by it’s very nature is the root of aids. In the western countries for all practical purposes aids is almost exclusively a homosexual disease.

    • Halou

I was wondering where the European/American AIDS crisis has gone. The tens upon tens of millions of people living in ‘pro-gay’ countries that have died and are still dying from AIDS after the nations stopped closing down relevant sexual education programs.

Even though few still suffer infections, AIDS is far less of a risk for ‘western’ gay men than it is for those in more godly places. A list of those countries which are worst affected is a list of those countries that are most unfriendly to gays and equally subjected to evangelical works.

      • Daniel Martinovich

Lots of ignorance in your statements Halou.

        • haMhanded

This coming from the person that spat out the unreasoned and unresearched comment. Thats what I have come to expect form the eternally dim.

  • RCQ_92130

I take it as correct that, though the Law seemed ‘severe’ on the surface, it was, in context, not so. That’s because – as has been explained here – the judicial system in Uganda (and elsewhere in Africa) is far from that which exists in America ….. and most laws are written with severe technical penalties that are rarely, if ever, enforced in the context of the legal system that actually exists.

Therefore, I presume the original Law is appropriate, as written, to protect Ugandan children from gay pedophile predators (especially those from Europe who used Uganda much as Thailand is used by pedophiles in America).

And, therefore, I hope Uganda does not bow to the Gestapo onslaught they have faced and are facing, but calls an acceptable quorum and passes, again, the legislation that they feel is proper and just for their country.

  • Scooter Livingston

You really are something, Lively. I wish I could say what, but it seems this web site has a policy against profanity.

As a native of MA, I sincerely hope that you NEVER get anywhere near the Governor;s office!

  • Pingback: SURPRISE AS SCOTT LIVELY WELCOMES END OF UGANDA ANTI-GAY LAW - MambaOnline - Gay South Africa online()

  • CrissCross

The facts are there: Lively DID evangelize homophobia over a period of time. He DID provide active support to anti-gay leaning brothers in arms. He DID deliver a 5 hour speech to the Ugandan parliament demonizing gays and calling for harsh restrictions on them. He DID distribute his toxic literature on the subject throughout the region.

The case about him is not about paternalistic treatment of Africans, it is not about racist claims that Africans are weak and easily led. He & his supporters accusations of racism, paternalism and imperialist thinking are a futile attempt to play a race card ostensibly in “support” of the Africans he evangelized his message to, despite the fact that there is no race card to play. These “Christians” and their African supporters will fail to deflect attention away from their atrocity by hurling false accusations at the LGBT community.

Demonizing the gays, and when they stand up to you, demonizing them more simply communicates just how deep the seething hatred pulsating through these “Christians” veins runs.

I am so glad that a true Christian such as Scott Lively; who also knows that there is no such thing as ” gay,” such being a marketing/Social Engineering term; is working to defend both our nation and humanity as a whole, as shown by his work in Uganda, against the anti-humanity attack of the Homosexual/Sodomy Movement which I have described at May God richly bless him for his courage, obedience to his Creator, and his diligent work to rescue both those afflicted by the emotional/soul pathology of homosexuality but also those who are targets of this monstrous Homosexual/Sodomy Movement war against humanity and most specifically the children of both our nation and the world.
