IRS Admits Illegally Giving Marriage Group’s Tax Returns to HRC, Made to Pay $50K in Damages

The IRS hits keep on coming.

A year ago this month BarbWire chief Matt Barber called for a federal investigation into allegations that the Internal Revenue Service conspired with the left-wing extremist Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to illegally leak the confidential tax returns of the pro-family National Organization for Marriage (NOM). The HRC then publicly and illegally released NOM’s private tax returns to the public.

Barber issued a call at the time for an investigation and potential prosecution at a press conference in front of HRC’s homosexual activist headquarters in Washington D.C. (see video below).

Now comes news that the IRS has been forced to admit to its illegal actions and pay $50,000 in damages to NOM. The question is whether HRC will likewise be held accountable and investigated for criminal wrongdoing and whether guilty parties will be prosecuted.

From the Daily Signal:

IRS Admits Wrongdoing, to Pay $50,000 in Leaking of Marriage Group’s Tax Return

Two years after activists for same-sex marriage obtained the confidential tax return and donor list of a national group opposed to redefining marriage, the Internal Revenue Service has admitted wrongdoing and agreed to settle the resulting lawsuit.

The Daily Signal has learned that, under a consent judgment today, the IRS agreed to pay $50,000 in damages to the National Organization for Marriage as a result of the unlawful release of the confidential information to a gay rights group, the Human Rights Campaign, that is NOM’s chief political rival.

“Congress made the disclosure of confidential tax return information a serious matter for a reason,” NOM Chairman John D. Eastman told The Daily Signal. “We’re delighted that the IRS has now been held accountable for the illegal disclosure of our list of major donors from our tax return.”

IRS spokesman Bruce I. Friedland emailed: “Privacy law, specifically Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code, prohibits us from commenting.”

In his order entered Tuesday, District Court Judge James C. Cacheris granted the settlement of NOM’s suit against the IRS, which was represented by the Department of Justice.

Hating Jesus: The American Left's War on Christianity

Matt Barber with Paul Hair

The secular left doesn’t merely have a disagreement with Christianity. These are not people with whom one may reason, compromise or even disagree. They are dedicated to evil. They demand nothing less than the abolition of the biblical worldview, and the destruction of Christ’s followers right along with it.

Now is the time to fight back. If you are someone, Christian or not, who refuses to see Christianity wiped out (like it ever could be) and your children indoctrinated into pure evil, then sitting on the sidelines is no longer an option.
